Possible bubba keg trade

Friend of mine has a lime green bubba keg. It is definitely older, and he said he would probably trade it for a weber ots (I'll probably get one off CL). Its definitely a bit older and the cooking grate is a bit rusty. Is it worth it?

HeSmellsLikeSmoke 03-13-2013 07:24 PM

I don't remember the original Bubba Keg coming in lime green? If it really is a Bubba Keg, it is worth quite a bit more than a Weber OTS.

If its a Bubba keg - grab it! Might need high temp silicone around the top and bottom vents.
Its definitely a practical and efficient cooker.

Just curious, did your PBC arrive yet?

You ordered it a long while back.

buccaneer 03-13-2013 07:27 PM

^^^^ grab it!

Smoothsmoke 03-13-2013 07:37 PM

I'd grab it in a heart beat. Webers are a dime a dozen.

PatAttack 03-13-2013 07:41 PM

Do it. Do it.

HeSmellsLikeSmoke 03-13-2013 07:46 PM

So, has anyone ever seen or heard of a lime green Bubba Keg?

Smoothsmoke 03-13-2013 07:56 PM

I've seen lime green keg coffee mugs. But nope, never seen a grill.

Crimson 03-13-2013 07:58 PM

Not that I know of I think they were gray my bubba is but the mugs come in lime green.

Trumpstylz 03-13-2013 07:59 PM

Yeah, its wierd, it says bubba keg, but it doesn't actually look like a keg- more like a grill dome. But it did say bubba keg on it.

Edit: Never mind- the bottom looks like the keg, but i'm not sure if the top has the indentation at the handle height. It might have just been painted green by him. He said his brother gave it to him.

Smoothsmoke 03-13-2013 08:00 PM

Pr0n of said grill please.

Yeah, I did. I like it, and the fire ring is a tank, but I do think I need to get off of the Kingsford blue (I haven't used stubb's or Kingsford comp in a while, I've been using lump). Also building a Mini wsm, so this will be a lotta grills/smokers. I can't wait to be "that guy" in my neighborhood.

Is it insulated metal or ceramic?

Trumpstylz 03-13-2013 08:07 PM

I'll take a pic when my buddy gets back- my phone had to repeat the second grade a few times and isn't all that high tech.
Are the grates for these easy to find? The grate on this is cast iron and is fairly rusty. I might be able to sand it down and reseason it though.

Smoothsmoke 03-13-2013 08:10 PM

Rust on CI is an easy fix man. Grab it and run already!!!

you got that right . use a 1 to 1 recipe on cast iron i part vinigar 1 part water . Soak for 4 hours . scrub with steel wool . rince if it still has rust do it again . But do not soak for over 4 hours at a time vinigar is a acid .

Yeah, I have to get a CL weber first, so I've gotta get one off CL in the next day or two, and then I'll go over there this weekend and seal the deal. Pictures to come.

If its a straight up trade for a Bubba Keg, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a brand new OTS for $99

MisterChrister 03-13-2013 10:43 PM

I'll do him a performer for it.

Crimson 03-13-2013 10:52 PM

You can also check if its a bubba it came with the cast iron grate, second tier crome grate, ash and vent tool and trailer hitch.

Pretty sure it had all that. The grate had 4 interlocking places where you had to sort of lock the grate in, and it had a wierd tool to hold the second grate up, but I did not see the additional grate (and don't much care). I think he thought it was for moving the grate around or somehting. Mind you, it wasn't in horrible condition, but its definitely seen better days.

This is a pic I found off the interent, but it looked like this, without the additional grate (and not in as good a condition). Pretty sure its insulated metal. It looks pretty much exactly like the ones I see online except it was lime green. The cover was also greyish (it was dark outside) and said "bubba keg" in the same greenish tint. The outer surface looked similar to the outer surface of the akorns I've seen at lowe's except it was green.

Brother, you are about to see the light! :whoo:

tish 03-14-2013 12:15 AM

If that is a Bubba Keg, I'd jump all over it... and quickly. You very rarely ever see one for sale second hand. And if you do see it, it's usually gone by the time you can even call on it. The fact that it's lime green might be the only reason it's not been snapped up thus far. Grab it!!! :thumb:

Is it home yet????
