IQUE 110 questions
My IQue arrived yesterday, and I watched the video for the WSM installation. They used water in the pan, and only opened the top vent 1/8". I usually use foil balls covered with 2 layers of foil in my pan, and keep the top vent wide open. Are any of the brethren using an Ique without a heat sink, and how are you keeping the top vent.

I use mine with my UDS after it gets to temp I hookup the IQ . Close all vents even the top and let it go.

I think the reason they have you close the top vent down is because after the grill or smoker get rockin, it will start to run away on its own. It will draw air without the fan running, causing it get hotter. The new IQ110s came out with a vent control on the fan unit.
I use it on my UDS. I have 2 vents on my Weber lid. I keep both vents open about 3/16". I control the "run away" air draw with my ball valve on the UDS. The ball valve is open about 3/8". |
With the iQue on my WSM, I haven't found the top vent to matter as much as without it. But, Mine is is about 2/3 open, which is more like 3/8 of an inch.
I use water in my foil-lined pan, but it shouldn't matter to the iQue either. Here in Texas, a heat sink isn't important much of the year. Sitting out in the sun in the summer, my WSM is too hot to touch without gloves -- with NO fire in it. CD |
