Very well done. With that info condensed, it males it easier to make a more informed decision. Steve.

That's one heck of a re-cap job,
very informative, nice going. |
Thanks for the kind words, but I only compiled a quarter of the list or less. Can't really take credit for it.
I hope it helps. Eric |
Interesting when they are all in a row like this:
There was a motion made in July to table the selection of a treasurer until the august meeting. Since it was not voted on in august, does KCBS have a treasurer? or who is watching the money? |
Quote:
The Board considered a motion which would require KCBS to not enter into or conduct a program, contract or venture of KCBS in the future, which is not calculated to be economically sound and projected to at least break even without the Board first appropriating and approving the amount of estimated economic loss to KCBS. At no time may KCBS expend an amount greater than the economic loss which was approved by the Board. Vote: Rod Gray, no Gene Goycochea, yes Don Harwell, yes Paul Kirk, no Wayne Lohman, no Linda Mullane, yes Steve Ownby, no Ed Roith, no Tana Shupe, no Carol Whitebook yes Merl Whitebook yes Vote 5 Yes, 6 no 0 abstentions, the motion failed. |
Withdrawing my nomination
To all KCBS Members:
I started out with good intentions to run for the KCBS Board of Directors but soon learned I cannot possibly fulfill the position. News from my family will demand more attention, which could affect my dedication to serve on the Board. I apologize to anyone affected by my nomination withdrawal but it’s a decision that will be positive for my family as well as the KCBS Board. I absolutely love KCBS and what it stands for and truly believe in its mission. I will still be involved as a KCBS rep and cooking in competition, but the Board demands a lot of extra time in which I now need to divert elsewhere. Thank you to Tana Shupe who believed enough in me to nominate me for the Board and to those who supported me. I would like to take this opportunity to express my support for Jeff Stith, Big Creek BBQ, who has positive visions for KCBS. He is truly dedicated to promote KCBS and is ready to tackle concerns from its members. I agree with his views and promote his candidacy for Board of Directors. Respectfully submitted, Bunny Tuttle |

These two issues and the fact that they didn't pass are of concern to me:
The Board considered a motion which would allow members to speak at the beginning of the meetings on any issue or any agenda item, though the KCBS conference call system and to place a recording of the KCBS meeting on the website which could be accessed by members. Vote: Rod Gray, no Gene Goycochea, yes Don Harwell, yes Paul Kirk, no Wayne Lohman, no Linda Mullane, no Steve Ownby, no Ed Roith, no Tana Shupe, no Carol Whitebook yes Merl Whitebook yes The motion failed 4 yes, 7 no, 0 abstentions The board discussed a motion that the MP3 recording of the open portions of all board meetings (Annual, Regular and Call) be place on our WEB under the members only section. \ Vote: Rod Gray, no Gene Goycochea, yes Don Harwell, yes Paul Kirk, no Wayne Lohman, no Linda Mullane, no Steve Ownby, no Ed Roith, no Tana Shupe, no Carol Whitebook yes Merl Whitebook yes The motion fails by a vote of 4 yes, 7 no, 0 abstentions |
Eric, yes, those are two troubling votes for me as well. As you know, I am a huge supporter of transparency and open communication. Granted, we don't know the circumstances of these votes and what might have been discussed prior to a vote being taken but on the surface at least, if you are in favor of being heard and being able to listen to board meetings, take a look at who voted no and vote yourself in January!

Quote:
The vote not to allow taping or MP3 was defeated because of information brought forth in discussion which could effect any legal actions possibly brought against KCBS. The following month the dial in to meeting was approved. |

Here's my thought on all these so called fears that board members have about being sued over something they've done or said in meetings during which a recorded meeting would help in preservation of "evidence"... our own Congress is live AND recorded on C-Span every day. Surely they have more urgent and life or death issues to debate than barbeque and yet those sessions are recorded and always available publicly. If there is such a fear, maybe folks should watch what they say in a public meeting and always act responsibly and ethically. And if you are, what's to fear with recorded meetings? |
Does anyone else find it interesting that Merl consistently votes for open meetings?
