I am the proud owner of 600lbs Ground Angus!

Our Neighbor called today to say that he was taking one of his Angus in for slaughter. Per our contract he must give me first rights to it or I can pass. Well I took.... Its a three year old that has produced many great calf's. Now its time to move on to a younger one. It will be ground completely. Yum! As soon as I get pics will post what 600lbs looks ground. It weighs between 1200-1300lbs live. Man there is alot of waste but still a whole bunch cheaper than store bought. Sorry Bob Brisket its all mine......

Man, just thinking about a 600lb fatty makes me shiver with delight! Sounds like a great opportunity and a lot of good practice time. Have fun!

Damn..........I was hoping to mooch a couple hundred pounds or so!

So you gonna make a 600lb hamburger patty with all that? So do you get all of it, or do he get some for him too? I like the sound of that contract.

Monty 10-28-2008 02:57 PM

wow!

now THAT'S a score!

Perfect timing... CHILI season!

just curious - why all ground?

A love a good staek, but man, ground beef is some good stuff and so versatile! Dont think I have ever had ground Angus. I know you will enjoy!

BBQ Grail 10-28-2008 03:06 PM

Congrats... Sounds like a great score.

I'm glad I opened the thread. Read the title a little to fast the first time.

"Hey Ashmont is having a burger party."

"Really? How many people?"

"About 600."

"Wow! That's a big party! How many burgers is he going to cook?"

"One."

aks801 10-28-2008 03:32 PM

How long can the ground beef keep in the freezer?

I love me some ground, but that would take a while to go through!

Don Marco 10-28-2008 03:35 PM

Holy cow !

Somehow i cant get the image of the whole angus and a giant meat grinder out of my mind

Fatties are best made with Pork. I am not sure that anyone has done beef.

Bob Brisket

I would love to share the wealth. Just trying to figure out how to get it from the farm to El Paso. The contract reads that as long as he is using our property to run cattle we reserve the right at first choice of any harvest. There are other provisions but that's the best to keep us all happy. Works for him he gets it sold rather quickly. He doesn't care who buys it but rather it gets sold.

Monty

All ground because its three years old. We normally harvest at 16 months.

BigMista

Have you seen my 8th grader 13y/o. 5'9" 156lbs. This maybe a little more than a snack.

For the rest of the beef will be:

Hamburgers
Meatloaf
Chili
Hamburger helper
Chili Mac
Pizza Burgers
Pizza Topping
Anything else I can think of with three kids and a wife.

BurntFinger_Jason 10-28-2008 03:45 PM

That's a lot of beef!!!! I think you owe me a couple good burgers after the Annie Gunn's incident. :)

N8man 10-28-2008 03:50 PM

That'd make a mess of chili!!!! Nice Score:biggrin:

Here's a link to a slideshow Mike from Hawgeyes did when he got a side of beef. He had the ISU meat lab guys come down and butcher it all up and invited Iowa BBQ Society members to come and take a look.
