**Seeking Volunteers, Wannabees & Fanatics - NorCal
So here is the scoop.
I have a team: Sir Porkalot BBQ that has competed in backyard & KCBS events in the Southeast since 2009. The "team" consists of myself and my teenage son, with a parade of others that have helped from time to time. I am relocating to Northern, CA this summer, and while my son will be here, none of my other "help" will. So I am seeking new pit bitoches :becky: I have had a couple of bay area brethren express some interest, but in cases where they may not be available due to other commitments, I would still be left without the proper support. I live in the Central Valley (Stockton, CA) area currently, and will be relocating this summer to the North bay or Central Valley areas (within an hour of Stockton & Concord), so most of the contests I am looking at are within a 2 hour drive of this area. Pay: $0.00 Hours: Long Work Conditions: Hot & Smoky with scattered beers You are responsible for your own transportation to the contest and lodging (you will find me on an air mattress by the pit most nights) If you are still reading this with interest, you should have your head checked. :loco:, and you should also get in touch with me. |
You mean, they have Barbecue in...gasp...California?
|
If you weren't moving to the other side of the country, I would have been happy to help. California...really???? Hope it's for a better paying job!!

Ooo, me! me! me!
Unless I am busy somewhere else. |

Damn wife & Kids insist upon eating and a roof over their heads. :loco: Yea, it should only be for the next 2-3 (3-5?) years, I am pretty sure i won't be able to take the left coast much longer than that. |

Boobs or BBQ? Yea I know...I would make the same choice. |

We already have Carolina-style BBQ out here.
I am not choosing boobs...lower. |
I know you plan to compete locally but if you ever make your way down to the comps in SoCal look me up. I've only competed twice a few years ago but managed a walk at each. It be great to learn from someone more experienced at them.

There might be some opportunities for me to get out of the house this summer (wife & kiddies may be out of town) & I wouldn't be opposed to heading up that way. Obviously something I wouldn't be able to do on a regular basis and also kind of a long shot but you never know - just throwing it out there. Any idea of when any of these comps are?

The sanctioned events I am looking at don't start till July. I am not doing any in June due to son's HS graduation and The Move. I haven't looked beyond July yet. |
Gotcha. April & May are a disaster schedule-wise, but summer might be OK. Ironically, the wife & kids might be in NC.
|
First of all, the Bay area aint Northern California, but I am glad yo gonna teach all us how to BBQ. Never tried avocado... got me thinking.

And it's further north than Southern, Ca right? :becky: |
You have to understand Nutz, he is a secessionist and advocates a hard line, between anything north oh Yuba City and us down here. They are called Jeffersonists.

Just sayin... |

Yeah, it's hard to find a hospital there in the middle of the night. Don't ask me how I know this. :cop: |
Don't worry, I know where all the hospitals in the east bay are located. If you come north, we can throw you a mini-bash, maybe Marty will let you feel his wood.

Jefferson does have some good breweries. And John must have priviledges at the one in Chico by now. :becky:
|
Guerry, there were complaints that my last avatar looked like a butt, so I put some clothes on Platy.
|
The only reason I'd move to Cali is for the weed!
|
Okay boys & girls - I have located to the bay area and first comp is the Bay Area BBQ Championships. July 6th & 7th.
http://www.bayareabbq.org/ Should be a huge time, and we may even get a call. Please start forming a line to my right with completed applications. |

I hope you took that with the humor intended. Nor Cal has its pros and cons. Good BBQ joints is one of the things that are few and far between..
|
Actually, we have a few good BBQ joints around here now.

So far so good with the move and the transition. |

Go man GO!!! Best of luck! I'll be cookin' over on this side of the ole miss at the same time, for a bunch of dam**d kids... Looks like we'll be having 70-80 and still counting; I had to bump up my pork order yesterday. John, in California... There's just something not right with that!!! Enjoy my friend, and kick some butt on the 7th!!! |

The whole "John in California" thing hasn't proved itself yet. I hope the 7th goes a ways in helping that. These folks out here need a whole lot of training, from how to drive like a redneck, to how to drink like a redneck. :tsk: However if I can just figure out how to beat Harry Soo in California then all will be good with the world. :clap2: |
So how excited are you to get away from Stockton? I visit Calli once a year (been more like twice last couple) and would help if in town. Are you going to post up when needing help? Or just getting people arranged now and it'll be the last we hear if it?

I actually enjoyed the entertainment value that Stockton offers. Of course, you have to understand that watching toothless prostitutes ply their trade & taunting homeless people is considered entertainment where I come from. :biggrin1: I can always use help, we are a small team and welcome any brethren involvement. I will post here for each event we do (probably 3 more this year). |
