I heard there is no Peoples Choice chicken wing contest whats up with that?

Not all the teams were thrilled with it.

We made 800 wings and people ran out of tickets after we handed out maybe 200 samples. We gave away most of what we made for free, and even that was difficult.

Our spot was a great space for, say, a 24 foot pirate ship. We were the furthest site from the people's choice ticket window, so it was not so great for that. Most people ran out of tickets by the time they got to us. The same thing happened with all the categoies. We had to give away most of what we made for wings, chili, chowder, etc.

Going to skip the people's choice this year. It was a lot of effort to make all that stuff in the quantities requested, and a fair amount of it got thrown out.

Don't get me wrong, we love the Norwalk event. The venue is nice and they treat the teams well, but there weren't nearly enough people's choice tickets sold, and we weren't helping the charities by having to throw out or give away most of our food.

yes a great event, but the People's Choice was a problem with getting people to come down away from where they purchased there tickets. I had to go down and talk people into coming down to our site. I offered a few suggestions to improve the People's Choice but I don't know if they are changing anything??

We changed the whole layout putting the food vendors in the rear facing the crowd so the crowd flows in and they will see everyone...We removed the chicken wing contest it just didn't work ! Just have chowder on Friday night and chili Sunday.... I hope that you guys pick at least one to do, that's really one of our fundraisers chili can be made at home and brought in and chowder we supply the clams you do the rest.....1st place Chili takes $250.00 not bad ! Chowder 1st place takes $250.00 not bad so why not do it ??? Curious to hear........

Thanks for all your support the group really does appreciated it...

We have decided to give the chili a try again. We really believe that it's important to the sport to have the public be able to have something to sample.

That being said, last year was a bit of a mess, mostly due to our location. Like others, we wound up with a lot of waste. Unless the layout is significantly changed, I dont think we will make as much.

I hope at least these things are fixed with the new layout:

1) Get rid of the closed-end horseshoe layout of the comp area. It needs to be open.

2) Place the ticket purchase kiosk in a central location. Most people that finally made it to us last year were already out of tickets.

Cant wait for the event. I gotta admit john, that layout scares me a little.

Don't see why? Your spot from last year and Purple Turtle has become an entertainment tent (Heineken Stage) with music all weekend long. The main entrance to the bbq will be, a Wells Fargo Stage Coach, to their left are the Swisher girls, that should attract a huge crowd, so what scares you? your'e going to need a bigger armored car ?????

By the way, I hope that's true...:becky:

any truth to the rumor that there will be a central location that all the people's choice items will be served from thereby eliminating the bias of those teams far from the ticket sales and far from the entrance?

I heard it would cost too much money with permits to do it that way
