Just went to my local Piggly Wiggly to pick up some groceries and noticed they had 18 lb bags of rancher briquettes on sale for 6.99. I usually use KBB but was thinking of switching to the comp briquettes from Costco, as they are only a few bucks more than KBB and I would prefer to move to using a 100% natural charcoal to fire my UDS. Most of what I've seen on the archives here about Rancher is pretty durn old, so I was wondering if anyone had used Rancher and Kingsford Comp recently and has any insight as to the value/quality of either and how they compare. I have used the comp before cooking whole hogs and the smell was noticibly better FWIW...

Well I used Trader Joes, which is made by Rancher. I know because I emailed Rancher to verify.

I do not know if its the same formula, but its very good. I have used K Comp, Trader Joes and also Stubbs and they are all very close, very good for a natural briq

The people at Rancher are very responsive to questions
