Death Dust Disappointment.....

When I heard about Oakridge BBQ's new offering, Habanero Death Dust, I was quite excited.....I placed an order for 3. I love a good hot wing, so I couldn't wait to try it.

Clipped the tips, and put into a Ziplock with EVOO & HDD. I let them marinate for an hour or so, then applied another dusting of HDD.

Onto the Lg BGE, had the temp at around 300.

Flipped and rotated for a couple hours...

Here is the finished product, looking fantastic...

My disappointment came when I tasted them, very one dimensional flavor profile. All it really had to offer, was a bit of burn...No sweetness, or tang whatsoever. This was advertised as a stand alone rub, at least that's how I interpreted it. IMO, it is far from it. I can totally see this being added as a heat component to some other base rub, but I got no joy when using it by itself. I am sure there will be opinions to the contrary, but now you know mine.

:tsk:

Thanks, if only the flavor matched the appearance.

At least I hope it is. I have 3 packages on the way and they weren't cheap especially with shipping costs.

Wings look really good, though!

They sure look great though. Haven't cooked mine yet but they are marinating. I am not a big fan of sweet Q and love me some heat so maybe these will be right up my alley.

I'm not a fan of sweet BBQ either, but IMO this rub brings no real flavor to the table. Like I said, I think it could be a great addition to a base rub, but I will not be using it as a stand alone again.

I appreciate that Mike, but I am gonna play around with it a bit. Like I said, I don't like this as a stand alone rub, but I do have some ideas for it :thumb:

Not looking to turn this into an Oakridge vs The World thread..... I would expect EVERY member if the Brethren, who sell their product here, to stand behind them 100%.

I have to say I am disappointed also but for living far outside the US when it comes to shipping. I've been tempted many times to order the death dust since I've heard about it but with one bag coming up to 29$ ship. incl. I'll have to pass and try to make my own.

I'll shoot you a PM, Patrice. I think we can do better than that on shipping.

I'd also like to know what you can come up with... I'm only a couple of hours away from Patrice. :)

Patrice, it looks like KCMike has offered to help you on the shipping in two threads now. It's not his fault you live far away, but it sounds like he's doing everything he can to get you some HDD? I recommend it and 10 pages of positive posts on the original HDD chicken wing thread is pretty credible evidence that this rub is legit.

Go for it Brother!
