First Trip To Costco Happening
Ok ,I finally joined Costco to try and am going tomorrow.
This is Docklands in Melbourne Australia. I have nothing to compare it to. What BBQ stuff should I be looking for. Something they are renowned for maybe, beef etc. thoughts folks. Cheers. Titch |
Kirkland Signature is probably the best generic brand ever made- usually better than name brands.
I get 1lb of tellicherry peppercorns for 4 or 5 dollars in the states. |
Their meat cuts and prices are generally of good quality and excellent prices. I would assume that the cuts will be mostly Aussie cuts. But, look for a brisket, the pork rib roasts are always a favorite, or a big beef chuck/shoulder.

Around here, the ribeyes are friggin awesome. Get there when they first open and you can pick through them. Some should be prime but are in the bins with choice. Great stuff! I like their pork ribs as well. Pork shoulders are always bone removed around here :( Stock up on spices. Great prices!
Cheers! |
hotdogs for $1.50 at the food court.

Spare Ribs, Tri-Tip's, Chicken, whole and parts. Almost all their Beef is very good. Good place to pick up essentials like Aluminium foil, Steamer Pans and Plastic silverware. Usually a good deal can be found on Spices.
It should be a trip you can find many things other than BBQ too, need tires? LOL Not sure if the suppliers are the same as in the US but even here products can vary by store or region. |
I'd be interested to hear what your your Costco has to offer, assuming regional differences.

Good service would be nice, but the reviews are not promising. Australia lacks service around here, almost becomes a chore to serve customers. I shall let you know. cheers. Titch |

Hmm, spent a couple of weeks in Sydney/Cairns/Brisbane, can't wait to go back. Folks were pretty friendly. Thanks, John |
The Costco up the road from me is pretty much the same as the one I went into in NJ a few years back.
Their meat is excellent and they have a butchery service too. I'm a regular for their chicken breasts which are much better than the supermarkets. The beef and chicken is from the UK, the pork loin that I have bought from there came from the US....I got some strange looks wandering through with about 3ft of pink meat hanging down in front of me! I bought my Brinkmann grill there about 7/8 years ago. The only charcoal I have seen in the one near me is the cr*ppy pre soaked stuff. Service is good, it's a busy place but they always have most if not all the checkouts open and they have people working the queues, moving people to shorter queues etc. |

If you stock up on coffee, best do it when the mrs is distracted.

Ribeyes, strip steaks, flap-meat, brisket, salmon, pork tenderloin, and especially the pork and lamb crown roasts. When I was younger, I'd just get a whole rib roast and slice it into steaks, but I can't eat that much anymore. |
You can buy one of their COUNTERFEIT Tiffany rings.

Costco.
Docklands Melbourne I found the trip to Costco pretty painless,I would not like to get there late due to parking. Service was as expected in a big item store,a bit slow but the staf seemed pleasent enough. Didn't think much of the prepackaged food but we tend to make our own stuff mostly anyhow.Like Pasta sauces etc. Meat selection was nothing fancy, mainly just Aussie cuts. But the meat we did buy to try, is very nice eating some packaged meat.. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps9dc1dbe4.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps78c3f92c.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps82c7cf73.jpg I have seen this Cheese mentioned often in Recipes, never knew what to substitute it for, so I grabbed some to try. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfdf066a3.jpg We will be going back ,as we can fill freezers.deck out a bedroom, get our eyes tested and virtually buy all our household goodies from one spot. Plus have a hotdog and be searched on the way out,I am not used to that. cheers. Titch |
