I have a wireless temp gauge:confused: and I was wondering, if I just put it on the grate am I getting accurate temps? Is there something I should use to get the temp of the cooking area?

As MilitantSquatter said above, you'll get a MORE accurate reading if raised so not in direct contact with the metal grate.

What kind of smoker you using? I use a turkey fryer thermo for my UDS. Just drilled a hole just below the cooking grates. It's long enough to reach the center of the smoker.

I have a COS, and I turkey fryer them and a drill... Hmmmm sounds like a plan!:thumb:
