Nice, good luck with it! I'm firing mine up for the first time tomorrow.

Looks like a great idea! I don't see a new cooker in my future for awhile though.. I told my wife when I got the pellet grill that I would get rid of something.....but I didn't. My bad!

iceman78 01-27-2012 09:36 PM

I'm using mine tomorrow as well!!!

iceman78 01-27-2012 09:38 PM

I got away with it since it was a "modification" and not new :)

bigabyte 01-27-2012 09:40 PM

What's the cost?

iceman78 01-27-2012 09:41 PM

150$ and shipping... 48$ to my house. Cheaper than a 22.5 wsm

i like the wooden handles a lot

but the big glaring logo on the front drives me nuts.
also, there's no door.

i'd seems like the extra cost of the cajun bandit is worth it.

I never use a door in any of my smokers... If you're looking, you're not cooking :) logos don't bother me, all cookers have a logo, but this you can turn around. Also a good way to have a weber and a smoker with one unit, granted I have 25 cookers :) but it's just another toy! Got a 32 qt pot coming to convert one of my smokey joes into a mini wsm... Don't need that either but eh! Who farking cares, light em up and smoke!!!

I gotta admit, for a 22" unit, that high off of the ground, if you had to refuel and it was loaded with meat, a door would probably seem pretty important.

For my 18" WSM's, the door is pretty much irrelevant. If I need to refuel, even if loaded with meat, I lift the chamber so I can refuel the whole ring.

I can't say the same about the 22" however, because when loaded there could be 60 to 80 pounds of meat in there, and the arm stretch around the 22" makes it more difficult to lift than the 18".

Of course, this looks like it is not as high of a chamber as the 22" WSM, so it may not hold as much weight when loaded, making it workable.

If you can get it all in one load though, I see no problems.

The kicker for me would be lifting it off and setting it on the ground while fully loaded with meat. If I knew that was not a problem, then I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

True... Will be interesting to find out how long a good cook will be... If a door is needed, I can get a buddy to cut one in similar to a wsm door. I do have a 18.5 wsm, a sole smoker and a BGE also so now will throw this into a rotation :)
