New house new cooker help

I moved and have no place to keep my 6 foot x 24 inch comp pit and trailer. The old house had a large covered area at side of house where I cooked and stored pit.

New house (we downsized) has a 12x12 back yard covered patio area can't pull pit back there. ugh. Don't want it in the garage all the time either.

I thought about getting a vertical pit like stumps or Backwoods unit for the space savings.
Problem is I really know horizontal stick burners. I like smoke flavor and good dark bark. Been cooking on horizonals for 30 years now Heck I have a small weber kettle on the comp trailer I only use to cook lunch and glaze my chickens I burn down logs and load it with the coals.

I am just afraid that if I got a vertical of some sorts I would not like the finished product...as well. I do like the idea of 8-10 hour cooks instead of feeding logs all night.

Question is do you think and old dog can learn new tricks.

If you like offsets and want a small footprint for backyard use, perhaps something like my build would be up your alley. There are a number of commercially available units of similar design...

If you like that style, there are a few suppliers listed in my thread.
