Will is graciously donating a competitors slot at WilliePallooza to a team of cooking students.

They will need smokers to cook on. If you have an extra smoker at home that you would be willing to lend to a new team of youngsters, it would be very much appreciated.

Please post here if you can help out.

Hopefully Will can set you up directly adjacent to the students so you can keep an eye on your smoker, so there would be no concern on that front.

Also, if anyone would be willing to act as a mentor, please post here.

Thanks!

The Yankee Rebels are planning on being there. I should have all of the application money saved up by April 18th. :-P

I was hoping those cheating girl scouts wouldn't be there, but I guess we'll have to deal with it. I'm quite sure they're putting girl scout cookies in their boxes in hopes of getting extra points from the judges.

I sure wish it wasn't so close to tax day (which is actually the 18th this year). It makes it hard for us accountants to get time off work for it. For some reason the bosses are more interested in tax deadlines than barbecue. Yeah, I don't understand it either.

I was looking at the Willie-Pallooza website and the info on the site says 6 portions of Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Beef but the New BBQ Brethren Rights states that each turn in should have 7 portions. Which is correct?
For those that are not familiar with new Bill of Rights, I have attached the pdf document. You should read it and get familiar with it because there are quite a few differences from the KCBS rules.

Thank you, James, I for one had missed seeing this. Perhaps I should spend more time here.

This is a definition of "rights" of which I was previously unaware. Sort of "If we catch you robbing banks, you have a right to be locked up", sort of thing. Does covering one's collective arse really require going to such lengths? (BTW, this is a serious question.)

1. Its tongue in cheek.

2. There are other organizations who chase down smaller organizations with cease and desist letters when they write there own "rule" book.

3. Im not sure the point. In order to qualify for the royal and the jack as well as empire state championship it is required there be a preset and approved set of rules. The group wrote ' no rules. Just rights' (with levity) to ensure set standards and set these contests apart from others by including some unique qualities. They were written by a committee of competition cooks for competition cooks.

I am aware of #2, which is why I wondered (among other things) if the situation had grown so bad that you had to avoid the use of the word "judge" as the common English usage for a person who decides the outcome of contests. I am glad that the phrasing and terminology is due to a healthy dose of #1, and hopefully not so much pressure from #2.

As to #3: it's a question, Phil, there is no point beyond acquiring information. It's a bad habit I have. When I wonder about things, I ask about them. One of the few vices remaining to me as I get older.

Sorry, thought u were asking 'why" we had rules. and yeah, the changes are tongue in cheek to give the document some 'unique qualities'. :becky: After all, we cant be copying rulebooks from anywhere,:cop: but we can take best practices from the various events.

We restored the term "judges" after our lawyers actually checked on it and decided its a broad enough term where no ownership can be claimed. We had lawyers(3 of them) review after each revision, and rephrase anything that can be arguably intellectual property. I thought the updated, most recent version is online.

This is the infancy, and the document will undergo rephrasing as we go and learn, but nothing will change the foundation or actual rule set which has been in the works for over a year.

I will confirm the proper version with the term "judges" are online. We did go out of our way to avoid terminology or properties that anyone can claim individual ownership of.

Being this is the first publication of the "bill of rights" I welcome feedback sent via pm. Let it be known, its not going to be put up for voting, committee or public discussion, but we welcome all feedback and will discuss it within the assigned rules committee.

Can't wait. Between Cue's diapers and Sacco's camaro a good time should be had by all!!! This work thing has really taken over my life as we learn a new electronic medical record system and since I smart and learnt faster I have been bombarded with patients. Going to be good to see everyone after the long ugly winter.

Questions to find out:

What does frank look like with a Tom Selick Stache - did he grow it, can he grow it, or is it merely show from a barbers floor?

Cue's your daddy - can he, will he, show up with sibling in tow? How do you tell them apart, aside from the obvious missing testicle on one of them.

Willy - oh never mind....

Barfly - falling asleep again?

Clint - still here?

I can't wait!!!

I will say that my back has improved and with limited lifting and the prosthetic in my shoe I am finally feeling semi normal again. hope it lasts through the summer! Miss you all and look forwarding to visiting everyone!!!

Two separate things. There is a chili contest on Saturday conducted by "real" judges to be turned in at 6pm (or 5:50-6:01pm turn in window).

On Sunday there will be a People Choice Chili contest for those who wish to participate and I would think the times in Newsday are correct for that. Usually it means people coming by, trying your chili, and if they like it best they will give a ticket or something to mark their vote.

Now I am confused, (and longtime dazed is a given..)
I was under the impression the peoples choice chili was also on Saturday and could be cooked in advance.
The official "real" chili for judges is usually cooked onsite but this year could also be cooked in advance, and turned in at 6pm (or whenever the official turn in time is deemed to be.)

And this was after getting the official heavy breathing call from WB)

scm1226
04-11-2011, 03:09 PM
Saturday for Both!!! Peoples choice starts at 1- till it runs out
Turn in for Judged Chili is at 6:00 PM (5:50- 6:01)
"You may start preparing your chili as soon as your meat is inspected. Early meat inspection is possible at the convenience of the organizers. All entrees must be at least 1 quart." (from the application)
But in the spirit of WilliePalloozza its all suppossed to be fun.

The closest you and the cookie troop will get to winning is if you buy tickets to Charlie Sheen's Torpedo of Death show.
Isn't the Charlie Sheen showing up at the VFW hall to extend his tour after he totally rocked those lesser known haunts like Radio City?

He did say he wanted to go into a bbq coma!

That reminds me of the time Phil's pants fell down during brisket turn-ins. I think he got all 1s in appearance.

Hi,

There will be an on-site food drive on WilliePallooza. An adjunct of Island Harvest will be coming by to pick up food on Sunday between four and five.

The judges will be bringing cans of food, as well as the people using the hall on Saturday. If you were able to cook an extra pork butt or some extra chicken to donate, it would be going to people who are in need.

Thanks!

Eric

On a sour note, if true that would keep the public away from supporting the People's Choice fundraiser.

On a positive note, more chili for me!

That's true, plus the bulletproof sides for the EZ Ups! I had a TV crew at my house last night and the producer couldn't believe I sleep in there when she saw all the cr@p packed up for the weekend.

All joking aside, I recommend getting some sleep on Saturday night.
I pulled an overnighter once. ONCE! I was completely exhausted on Sunday when it came to turn in times. I won't ever do that again!

Banshee to run the electric heater to keep you toasty...
The look on phils face at 2:30 am Priceless, while the generator soared, suckin gas :becky:
