Ron Cates said last week that he is still working out the details with the resort.

We are looking forward to getting all the details also. Depending on where it falls in our schedule, we may be heading out that way from Florida.

We have no shame in chasing the money. :)

This is a Ron Cates, "Smoke on the Water" production. It will happen if Ron has any thing to do with it.

I hope it isn't on the 20/21 of May. The GAB would be hard to miss.

See you in Delaware. State # 31. I can't keep waiting on this event and being held hostage. I have a free entry for Delaware and I 'm heading to Amish country...

It's not just this contest, also got the SAMS club, kingsford cup, and in Indiana the Hoosier cup, plus all the SOTW events. Any body got ideas when these might come out.

Presuming this event ever happens, I had some ideas for those of you discussing the cost: One is to get a "group buy" in on a transportation company with car haulers and the like. They could probably fit six large pits on the back and get you all to and from the competition. With the group buy, it might be cheaper than driving. You could also look at PODS if your pit is small enough. None of these are cheap, but compared to a $1200 fuel bill....

I wonder if they realize that in future years this will put their big festival the same weekend as MIM. May has five Sundays this year, and MIM considers the "third weekend" to be the week before this event, but next year, that won't be so. It's certainly not every one, but there are at least a few big name teams who may continue to do MIM in stead, then again, maybe not.

Ramblin' Ronnie Cates makes it happen again!

We will see how loyal the MIM following is if that prize pool ever does hit the $500k they talked as a 5 year plan.

Any way you look at it, it is a good week for comp BBQ with this and the Sam's Club both releasing dates and details.

Please forward to any cook team or KCBS Certified Judge who might be interested in this information. If you have any names with E Mail addresses that you could share with us, it would be appreciated if you could send those by E Mail to me (Betty Cates).

Why would you contact anyone else for a Smoke On The Water event?

Yeah, but MIM is an institutution...one of the oldest BBQ contests in the nation. I understand the logic behind this $125,000 contest but I personally feel it is a slap in the face to BBQ culture. There are just some things you don't do, and cutting the legs out from under another contest, especially a well established one, is one of those things. You wouldn't put a major contest the weekend of the Jack or the Royal...I just find it rude. But hell, I'm loyal to MIM and have been cooking in it for over a decade, so what do I know...

While it may not be right, many KCBS cooks do not hold MIM with the same reverence as the Jack or the Royal...

I know, I cook both and get an earfull from the KCBS guys badmouthing MIM, and onsite judging, blah blah...same goes true with some of the MIM guys and KCBS. I was raised that there are four sacred contests in this culture...The Royal, The Jack, MIM, and The Texas Rodeo...

I just think some traditions should be left alone...

Thinking about this one. I am supposed to be getting out of debt. (Wife will be retiring from the Air Force in two years)

I am already commented on the Sam Club Comp in Sac on April 14th thru 17th. If I place in top 8 will be going to Vegas the first weekend in May and then hopefully back again two weeks later for this event.

Looking like I might see Alaska Airlines "Gold" membership this year!

Hopefully I am ready. Had three cooking classes this winter and am actually teaching a few BBQ classes of my own. Cooking and experimenting weekly. On my last class with Kelly (4legsup) they had KCBS judges talk to us about our food and I got some really nice comments.

Another important part of my learning is reading this forum. Very informational! Would like to see a few more secrets! I purchased my Brethren flag and will be representing Alaska and you fellow Brethren Brothers!!!! Just wished I didn't live so far away.

This BBQ sport is much like golf. Addicting as hell!!!!!!!
