A friend of mine got a brinkman pit master, without offset fire box, for his birthday. We did the inagural cook yesterday.

Man, that pits a bitch! Maintaining temp in her was close to impossible. It was way to close to work.

Anybody have experince with this bitch? Any mods known? You can add the firebox, would you recommend it?

Thanks!

No separate fiebox? EGADS!
Man, I'd do it just for the ability to cook meat with indirect heat...

we did cook indirectly with a small fire off to one side of the barrell. nothing over it or too close.

If he wants to continue to use without firebox I would recommend he build a coal basket. The basket could be 12" to 20" wide and would hit under the far end of the grate. If you have ever seem a Hawthorn Grill they do a pretty nice job using this style.
