View Full Version : Howdy from Culver City, CA
Been lurking the past few months & decided to step up. Lots of great info here and I really appreciate the amount and quality of knowledge that is available on this site. I never post on forums, but the bbq brethren seems to be a little different from other sites so here I am.
I'm a born & bred Tennesseean living in Culver City, CA (been lost in California for a couple decades now) & doing my best to make this town smell like hickory (& occasionally oak). Been smoking pulled pork, St. Louis cut spares, chicken & homemade sausage. Recently overcame my southeastern pork-centric upbringing and started on brisket (inspired by a past life in Austin, TX) & been loving it too. My son asked me what superpower I wanted & I told him it would be the ability to eat without consequence.
Anyway...Hi y'all - glad to be here...thanks!...gtr

Welcome gtr! This is a great place.
Welcome to the forum. I know what you mean about CA. I live in OC and the first weekend I moved into my new condo I fired up the smoker to feed the moving troops and sure enough one of the neighbors called the fire dept because she thought a tree was burning. The local fire dept knew before they even got out of the truck that the wood was mesquite and apple, not pine tree. They made sure I had my fire extinguisher close by and I gave them a few tips on how to cook pork butt. Who would have known, but they have a WSM at the fire house and often smoke rips and chicken!!

Welcome to our crazy little club house!
Hey Big Mista - the whole reason I found this site was because you mentioned it in an interview you did. You spoke so highly of the folks here I had to check it out. I look forward to checking out your grub when time & geography allow.
& LGHT - I got a visit from the fire dept. at my old house - best part was I was running an errand and my lovely wife was taking a nap. I may have been alone in seeing the humor of it that day. I took the reporting neighbor some slow smoked ham - all ended well.
