View Full Version : Yardbird and Bovine Bold MSG free?

Todd,

I just purchased some of your rubs online from the kansas city bbq store and am looking forward to trying them this weekend in competition. When i got the packages i noticed that both said MSG free. Are both rubs MSG free now or did i get an MSG free version? The older bottles I have both list MSG as an ingredient. Thanks for your response.

I was told at my local shop (Brethren OakpitBBQ) that Plowboy's was going to be MSG free as stocks were replaced. I assume this is in response to market pressures. I am sure Todd will weigh in after he recovers from the Royal.

As an "Old Plowboys" fan I'm interested in the answer to this too. If "New Plowboys" is going to be the standard, will there be a "Classic Plowboys" offering for those of us that desire it?

Sorry, just saw this. Yes, we are MSG free across the board. Both products have been blind tested and the new product performs just as good as the old. I got a few ribbons a couple of weeks ago that prove it. :becky:

Funny... I just bought a 5lb bag of Plowboy's beef rub from Hawkeye's and the ingredient label still says MSG... Did I get an old bag?

Could be, but I doubt it. Which label are you referring to, the white label or the Plowboys label. Could be that an old Plowboys label got put on. The white label is what we want to look at on the bags. Take a look and shoot me a PM.

You guys have done a great job on your Bovine Bold, nothing has come close to it yet, and I've tried lots of rubs. Thanks. Yardbird pretty darn good too.
