Here's an interesting story from the internet.

Can you find the flaws in his design?[/i][/u]
Galvanized will kill ya, but other than that it's ok. For the same $50 I can buy a Brinkmann electric on sale or an Ole Smokey electric for $111 every day from this address:
http://www.barbecue-store.com/oldsmokey-electricsmoker.htm
Then again, at the low temps the galvanized probably wouldn't be much of an issue -- unless the chips flare up, etc.

Brian would say: No Gas?
Can't get a gas smoker for $50 :D
$149 will do it though at Wal-Mart.

really? what's it do?
really? what's it do?
The fumes from the galvanizing are toxic -- If you were to "burn in" the can with a hot fire it would clear off the zinc/galvinizing but then it would immediately begin to rust out!
I have to admit I've thought of getting a thrift shop hot plate to put into my ECB.

No exhaust and cooking in a galvanized can, Nirvana!
It has potential for a real thermostat!! Wait, then it would be an oven!! Kinda like Bradley cooker!! :D Or a Cookshack electricl.
Cabela's has several electrics as well as pellet cookers by Traeger, etc.

OK, maybe.....we would have stuck a piece of PVC in the bottom and made a pipe.

i dont know anyone that BBQ's at 400 degrees.. thatr aint right.... and He says BBQ is over charcoal, not wood and "smoking" is at 225. Sorry.. to me , cooking at 200-250, wook OR charcoal.. or both.. thats BBQ... and smoking is done in the hotsmoke(160-180) range and cold smoke(80--125) range. he's using an old boyscout trick... 'cept for the galvanized can....

My limited math skills calculate that to be $54, for $2 more he could have gone to wal-mart and had to ECB's to cook on. Whadda ya want from someone who says, "the std cut for smoking is a tri tip". California dude obviously needs some Brethren assistance, and a hand check.
