Made a post about doing a brick pit this winter but I have lost it. Keep the ideas coming.

This pit is just a block or so from our house. Homeowner says they rarely to never use it. It was built by the previous homeowner who used it "near daily". Has two fire levels, one for the smoking fire, acess through the rear door and another for grilling which is adjustable in height under the grilling grate. Smoking area is small, single 16x24 cooking grate, behind front door. Built in storage area on the right side behind whats left of a wood door. Going back to talk to the guy today to see if I can buy the pile of fire brick.

More pix.
Trout, nice link. I was gonna hunt that site up and stick a link in this thread, now I don't have to.
Sewtek, a guy with a Bandera I met at a local contest, claims the builder of Wilber D. Hogg is his brother in law or some sort of relative.

Gee Brian, with all the quality input in this thread you should be ready to begin construction by the weekend. I would add you'll probably need some sort of holes at the top for the smoke to come out of.

Not at all, guy was real nice. Asked would I give him some pointers on using the smoker part as he has only grilled on it. He doesn't have a computer so I gave him my phone and adress and told him to call or stop by any time. He likes ribs, gave him short course on temp and 3-2-1. Wish I had better credentials, hell any at all, I'd love to teach classes.

Scott, you've got to teach the guy with the brick smoker to smoke with that thing. It looks like it would be fun to use. All that brick should make temps quite stable. 16 x 24 sounds great for brisket.
