Hi,, guys,,, I'm new here great site, Question.. I've been using a vertical , Brinkmin smoker for a couple of years. have done well but want to move to larger smoker,,, I like the bandera,, but I have few questions.. does it maintain its temp.. well..( why did'nt they put a thermomater on it ?) and It has a large cooking area that I like .. but if your only doing a couple of hens or couple of slabs of ribs.. would it be worth using the bandera..or would you use something, smaller.. and does the larger cooking area require twice as much fuel.. as say Hondo.,type smoker//

Thanks

Welcome!

does it maintain its temp.. well.

It doesn't do too bad if you do the modifications, but it's not as heavy a metal as a Klose is built with either

why did'nt they put a thermomater on it ?)

You won't really miss it, the thermometer reads about 25*-50* off in most banderas anyway. get you a digital probe thermometer, put through a cut potato and measure the temp at the shelf.

but if your only doing a couple of hens or couple of slabs of ribs.. would it be worth using the bandera..or would you use something, smaller

there's a modification we refer to as the heat shield mod, you cut your cooking space down in the smoke chamber, thus using less fuel.

Go to the Bandera 101 files and most of your questions are answered there.

Welcome aboard kp. You need to go to cattle call and introduce yourself to the brotherhood of smoke.
