I saw something on the Food Network where some people down south (Alabama, I think) make a white BBQ sauce. Has anyone here tried it and if so what are your opinions?

Authentic Alabama sauce is made with Mayo.

Did a search.

Interesting.

Bill is right as usual. The white sauces are uncommon and
all I have tried are for the mayo freaks. I made a short road
trip last Friday night to try Smokie Jacks in the small town of
Demopolis, AL. The place was on the Food Network not long
ago. The Q was very good, and he had a ton of trophies to prove
I wasn't the only one who thought so. He had a white sauce and well
as a very tasty redish/brown one. He doesn't sell the sauce seperately
as yet. I wasn't impressed with the white sauce, but I have yet
to find one that I personally liked.

If an Alabama man isn't crazy about it, I think I will pass.

Does white mean it is man-naise based?

Here's a recipe off the internet, never tried it.

White Barbecue Sauce
Source: Recipe by The Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association

6 tablespoons mayonnaise
3 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar

Whisk ingredients together until smooth. Brush on chicken near the end of broiling, grilling or baking.

I'd keep parrothead far far away when making this. :D

I'd figure on Alabamianites for having a White Lightning BBQ Sauce......
the mayo based BBQ sauce seems, well, a little strange.

But then, I suppose BBQ mutton seems strange to you uninitiated ones.
