do you guys think that a pizza stone in the smokebox chamber of a bandera would do the something that fire bricks do?

Should help, but unless it covers the entire bottom, it will not be as effective. Fire bricks (slats) are cheap, easy to cut and fit with a circle saw/abraisive blade.

I checked with a couple places that sell brick, they have regular fire brick that is around 3" thick. My second question was did they have what is called "slats", but he was not familure with those. Would slats be available like at Lowes or Home Depot? And how thick are slats?

1.5 inches thick, call a brick yard, look in yellow pages, if they don't have them ask which brick yard in your area does, they will know. And no, HD and Lowes will not have them.

I've seen those pizza stones crack with enough heat. I bought fire bricks at a masonry yards for like .99 cents each.

I tried another brick outfit, and asked for "splits" this time, and they knew what I was talking about, and yes they carry them, .94 cents ea.

Good job. I had a hard time finding expanded metal for my first firebox mod. Couldn't find a place with it in stock. Perseverence <sp?> pays off!
