LAST NIGHT IN STL I TRIMMED ONE MY TREE AND DISCOVERED, ITS A PIN OAK TREE. I HAVE ABOUT 10 FEET OF IT, 4 INCHES IN DIAMETER. IS THIS TYPE OF OAK ANY GOOD FOR BBQ'N? IF SO HOW DO I CURE TO GET IT READY?

to cure it, keep it dry for 9 months.

Kameo, pin oak is a member of the red oak part of the oak family. I would guess it burns and tastes a lot like red oak. It's not my favorite flavoring wood but its flavor is OK. Red oak burns fairly hot, quite clean, leaves a good coal bed and little ash. I use it quite a bit in the latter stages of a cook.
Your wood will dry more quickly if you split it now but it will still not be ready until next year.

After hurricane Isabel we had about two dozen pin oaks down in our neighborhood the next door neighbor was burring the branches just to pass the time, I thought that the smoke (yes it was green) was a bit too perfume for my taste. Even green it did produce a hot fire.

Red oak has a peppery flavor and can be to strong for some folks.
Oak is ok for beef but I know cooks that use it on everything. These same folks like their BBQ so smokey that they fart smokerings.

... they fart smokerings.
That remark resembles most of us after B3 at Mary's. Not that the food was so smoky - 3 days worth has a tendency of manifesting itself that way.

Only if your farting into the firebox, could change the overall flavor print!!

Thanks Charlie... I love it when me & bill dont have to to be the one to moderate!! Thanks!
Back on Topic.. :) The oak around here is pin and white oak. I use both. Never founf them to be too smokey. Pin oak is however much sweeter smelling.
At Bash 3... Unless PitBitch was pulling oak out of the log pile next to the pit. The big pile in the back was mostly cherry, mulberry and hickory.
