Well, by my count we have half the state of Texas in this group.

Any you Texans want to check the feasibility of a giant bash down there?

Anyone know of forest preserve/camp ground mods available, or is it all farking desert.

Bill,
Does seem that the Texas Farkers dominate
We don't have them all yet. I have one more son North of Plano to get Qing with us.
He happens to live on 10 gorgeous acres--Hummm
I call it the "Ponderosa".
Need to get to work on that Kiddo.
We are up for a Texas Bash anytime.

Forest would describe a small portion (probably about the size of Illinois) of the state. Gotta watch out for the farking logging trucks, especially near the Arkansas border. Something close to DFW or Houston would probably work the best for travel.

My spring is already booked but I can look into some of the options.

We can time it to that.

Jorge
07-13-2004, 09:39 AM
I'm guessing that around Labor Day in the Houston area you are looking at mid to high 90's with humidity close to the same. Racer, rusold?

When this started Phil suggested early spring of '05. If a state park was the selected site, as Bill asked about earlier, there would be a better chance of reserving that location. I'm already locked in for Labor Day festivities, and next spring is blocked off as well, but happy to do a lot of the leg work for this thing.

Feb in N. Texas cn get tricky. Not unheard of to get the rogue ice storm. Not a big deal for you, but I stay home when that happens and watch the morons sliding into each other. March and April are usually pretty good months.

MikeG

Years ago, the one I was familiar with was held in Sweet Water,
Texas. Not sure when. The one here in Alabama is held in Opp,
and it is in the early spring(March).
I have you entered in the sacking event. That is a timed event
where they dump ten on a concrete slab, inside a cage, you pick
them up with your hands(to use a tool is wus), and but them in
a burlap bag. Your partner holds the bag. Lowest elapsed time,
without a bite, wins. Your DQ'd if you get bit.

Austin isn't the best/easiest place to fly in and out of. Probably the most central location for Texas residents that would more than likely drive, though.

If you are thinking about sampling some of the local Q you should be thinking Lockhart, having spent all that time in San Marcos. You need to return to your roots if you have forgotten that  Somebody been feeding you too much tofu out there?

Yep, just about like Hell's front porch.

If you're trying to get to Austin you might as well fly into San Antonio -- rental car and a short drive up I-35 and stop at New Braunfels, San Marcos, greater metro Shertz and beautiful Buda! :D

I flew into a recently new airport that I believe was a air base or something. It was very easy to get in an out of and I got cheap direct flights to and from San Jose, CA.

Some decent Q in Austin:Rudy's (chain started in/near San Antonio), Green Mesquite for chopped beef, Ruby's, John Mueler's, Stubb's is reportedly hit and miss lately now that live music seems to have become the focus. There is better to be had a short drive away in Driftwood, Lockhart, Luling, Llano, Taylor, Elgin, Bastrop or several other places.

You flew into Bergstrom. Used to be an AFB that at different times belonged to SAC and TAC for you AF vets, operated B-52, RF-4C, and F-16C prior to reverting to the city after a BRAC round.

John got lucky flying in from San Jose. If you happen to be in a 'geek' area odds are good that you will find some good deals and convenient flights. Austin has a pretty high density of tech companies and the airlines have responded to the need/business. Getting into Austin or around Austin depends on the time of day that your flight comes in. Based on John's review it sounds like it was early, late, or a weekend. It can be a true PIA.

chad
07-13-2004, 04:23 PM
Ah, Bergstrom Air Plane Patch -- it's lovely in July -- try living under canvas next the flight line, eating in a field kitchen, not being allowed to use any base facilities and oh yeah, working midnight to noon -- oh man, try sleeping next the flight line during ops and this was in the days of F4's -- ever hear an 4F spool up?? :D

Nothing like 2 years of a mobile squadron to give you an appreciation of flight lines and field kitchens.

Don't know about your state but ours won't let you have alchohol in the state parks. Better check, imagine how many pissed off Brethren there would be if you set this whole thing up and they found out they couldn't have beer. It wouldn't be Brethren Bash, it would be WWE Bash, Texas invitational. YEEHAAA!

Actually not a bad part of the state. The TXFOs, OKFOs, LAFOs, maybe some MOFOs, and MSFOs could make it. At least the northeren LA and OK, and northern half of TX folks could drive in.

There's a great pavilion at Lake Lavon that can be rented out and lots of camping spaces & trailer hookups.

Ty

Not sure Lavon could handle all the bullchit.

This place has cabins and a place to cook and drink beer.

Brian,

I'll be spending a few days with my big brother in Colleyville (sp?), near the DFW area.

He actually has a Bandera, and he had no idea until recently that I was a member of this group. We never talked Q until now. He's had some trouble using the thing, so I'll be having some smoke sessions with a 'Dera at last!

He is a neighbor! Odds are better than average that we've passed each other in the grocery store. I'm just across Hwy 121 from Colleywood. If he's still having problems shoot me a PM and I'll send my cell # for you to pass along to him.

Lake Texoma might be the best bet. Far enough from the wifes so we don't have to hear "Oh honey please don't do that....again"! March can still be pretty cold if a front blows in.

If you transport me....The crapper gets used !!

I like the Lake Texoma idea around March / April.
Same idea as last year when no one could break free and we had that

The motorhome doesn't need a crapper to get used as a crapper.

If you farkers nail a down date soon enough and far enough advance notice, I'll see what I can do abut getting out there.

I think I will just set a date, time, and a place in TX.

I'll bet the CAFO's, the MOFOs, the NEFOs, and the rest of the XXFO's from around the country would show up for a good Bash.
Heck, maybe even CarbonToe would like to see TX in the Spring

Then, we can have a Bash with all the Brethren.

But, I am sure the TXFO's would be busy

This is soooooo funny!

How about Texoma Resort? It has tons of cabins, RV spots and even has a large cabin that will sleep 40 people...

Just another option.

Maybe they will have the 2013 date open.

Any you Texans want to check the feasibility of a giant bash down there?

Anyone know of forest preserve/camp ground mods available, or is it all farking desert.

Yep...this "event" will definately take the award for best planning and longest staffing!!:-D

I'm in, like the place you picked, and why not both March AND April? The last weekend in March straddles the months and I can't imagine spending April Fool's Day with a better group of...guys. :)

Hey, want me to brew up a five gallon batch of bash beer for the occasion?? Let me know what you like and I can get one ready!

Might I suggest as usual something a little more centrally located in Texas, Lake Whitney? Just one hour south of DFW and on the side were those of us not in north Texas could actually think of making it.

Regardless of the place, is anything with a Lake associated with it a Spring Break destination for the locals?

I might fly down for that.
