I had a tree cut down, and now I've got a big pile of birch. I looked it up and it looks like it'll be ok to cook with.
What I want to know is... is any variety of birch ok to use? Should I just try it and see how things turn out? This is a cutleaf or weaping birch or some such thing.

I just started my annual cut back of the birch in front. Grows like crazy.
I've used it in the pit. Really mild
In fact, I got last years chunks all dried out. Takes a solid year to cure it.

Then I'll let it season, and find out how it is next year.
I can get all the birch I want now. I think every birch in the neigborhood is dying from bronze birch borers.

i used white birch a few times.. Burns up like paper, low temps and disappears real fast. Still have it in the woodpile... dont use it much anymore cause it burns away so quick.
