More of a fruit juice. A spiced one at that. I guess it is like a tomato cider.

Saw plenty of recipes for cherries jubilee, but none for chocolate cherries jubilee. I cooked some cherries, with a little wine and a little sugar and a little corn starch and a little butter.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/Cherries%20Jubilee/IMG_0220-1.jpg

Then I poured this on top of some French vanilla ice cream, added some chunks of chocolate and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/Cherries%20Jubilee/IMG_0236-1.jpg

Then I added some cherry brandy to the top (Chris, use this pic)

Well Bob, I figure if you're going to vote for me, I better submit something. All sorts of fruit and berries are coming into season, and like usual I couldn't make up my mind what to make, so I baked a few of my husband's favorite things.

I began by pitting cherries

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0219-1.jpg

until I had a nice bowl of them

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0218-1.jpg

I mixed them with sugar and cornstarch let them maserate for 20 minutes. I lined some muffin tins with cream cheese pastry dough and baked these in the oval for about 40 minutes at 325*. Muffin tins are so versatile, did you know you can actually bake muffins in them?

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0244-1.jpg
On to Blueberries. We have some high bush blueberries in the backyard just ripening, not enough for turnovers, so I supplemented with store bought.

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0293-1.jpg

I baked the blueberry turnovers and some tartlet shells.

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0246-1.jpg

I filled the shells with vanilla custard, covered with strawberries, and topped with melted apricot preserves

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0275-1.jpg

I topped the cherry dumplings with whipped cream just before serving.

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0286-1.jpg

I placed these in a basket

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/ecodeps/fruit/IMG_0249-1.jpg

and served them up for my husband with a glass of milk

Ok so I started out with peaches, apricots and mangos. Dusted with cinnamon sugar then off to the grill. Mixed up batter of flour, sugar, milk and almond extract. Peeled and chopped the fruit then into a simple syrup bath. Melted a stick of butter, added batter then fruit. Cooked 45 min. Topped with whipped cream. Please use last pic as entry.

What we like Jim is meat. We don't like ice cream because it hurts our teeths and there were no kids in my pron because they were asleep. I wanted it dark so you could see that pretty blue flame.

Well my cherries came frozen in a bag from Safeway, along with the ice cream. I'm surprised ecode didn't plant her own cherry tree years ago in anticipation of this throwdown -- maybe she did.

Master did not use persuasive powers to convince volunteers to taste flames. Instead we waited until flames died down before sampling. Ice cream tasted very strongly of cherry brandy, so it was very good that children were sleeping. Glad I did not have to drive home afterward. :cop:

You never know where these throwdowns are going to lead you. For your throwdown pleasure, I submit the Pie Iron Bacon Blueberry Tart.

The Pie Iron, fresh out of the camping stuff.

Laid in the pie dough and the filling:

I can definitely picture the apple pie with bacon, but I'm having trouble grasping the blueberries.

The pie filling has a good bit of maple syrup in it along with the dry spices. So it tastes much like blueberry pancakes and bacon. Since I had precooked the bacon weave, much of the grease had rendered out. The bacon crisped up for both the pie and the tart but the bacon flavor was more balanced in the tart. The pie was good but I liked the tart more.

Counting on you to give it a try.:-D

There was much experimenting that went on this week with fruit on the grill. This was the best tasting one that I came up with.
Candied mango wrapped in bacon and topped with whipped cream and smoked grated coconut.
Started by slicing up the mango taking out a pack of bacon.
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0612102006.jpg
The mango was rolled in some white sugar and then wrapped in one strip of bacon each.
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0612102019.jpg
From there, it was on to the grill.
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0612102028.jpg
While those were cooking I took some coconut meat that I had smoked on the grill earlier and grated it.
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0612102037.jpg
Off the grill they came.
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0612102134.jpg
Then it was time for a stripe of whip cream and a dusting of the coconut. (please use this next pic for my entry.)
http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad246/bigbutzbbq/Random%20pics/0613101253.jpg
Originally I had much grander ambitions including a pie and a mixed drink. But, wasn't happy with those results so I stuck with the mango. For those who want to know what the other stuff looked like, here you go.
