They cashed my check, so I must be in....right?
And DON'T set up next to the tippy canoe- that spot was like the raging river ride at adventureland!

Wow, you gotta elaborate. The image that comes to my mind is downright terrifying!

I'm out of pellets and I won't have time to get any more before the comp. Does anyone going to Ottumwa have 20 lbs of BBQers Delight pellets that I can buy from you? Hickory would be best - but beggars can't be choosers! :thumb: I can buy Traeger pellets locally, but I don't want to use them at a comp.

Do they sell them at Hawgeyes Nate? If so, I've gotta make a stop there this week and could pick some up for you.

Nate, I will pick up your pellets on Mon or Tues night and send some to Ottumwa. I got pellets for Spanky to, so maybe I can send some with him.

If you haven't seen King of Kong I recommend watching prior to going to Ottumwa.

Are they having the Thursday night buffet?

Yep, each team gets four tickets. My daughter is cooking this one with me again this year and we are planning on coming down Thursday afternoon.

I've seen it. Great movie. Can I ask why it should be seen before Ottumwa? Am I missing a trash talking moment?:heh:

Little history of the town is all. And now they are trying to be video game capital of the world.

Ya'll can have my Thurs dinner tickets. Nice idea, but I'd rather see bigger payouts or lower entry fees. How many teams show up on Thursday?

Didn't do the dinner last year so I can't say!
I'm not good enough yet to concern myself with the payouts yet either...
They are a little on the high side for the entry!

That's my point. Keep the costs down as most teams won't get to take advantage of a catered Thursday night event.

EDIT: Oh, and you ARE good enough.

Thanks Todd-this years turning out to be a tough one for the meat mafia!
I whined to them last year about the entry fee-and I'll probably do it again this year.
I guess I'm kinda a ball baby!

I mentioned that to the organizer last year in Marshalltown when they were going around. Told him that is a lot of money for only a top 5 payout consider all the other contest the state has to offer plus it's something not all teams can take advantage of. He thought Thursday night was customary. Apparently he attended to KCBS contest in the southeast and they do that. I also believe he is a the head chef or something like that at the Ottumwa Convention center and thus a way to promote both.

I'm not sure about this organizer. They called today to ask if I'd be willing to do people's choice. Gotta cook a pork but by 5pm Friday. Told them I probably won't be there until 3pm, so that ain't going to work. Informed me that they are closing the gate to vehicles at 3pm, but would be able to let me in. Apparently, they think everyone comes out on Thursday and stays through Sunday.

If I wasn't looking for a contest that I could do directly from the WPX, I'd be avoiding this one.

I got that call too. He asked me if I'd be willing to cook "pig butt":laugh::laugh::laugh:

funny... nobody called me. I wouldn't do it anyways, last year's "winner" was the home town boy-who also just happened to have a nice sized party that friday night, and a lot of their "guests" had bought tickets for the peoples choice.
Did I say that out loud?
