Got an ornamental plum in the front yard that is dead. Hoping to cut it down tomorrow or next weekend.

My question is, from what I understand the fruit of the ornamental plum is not good for people (don't know if it is considered poisonous or not though). Also this tree has died clearly from some disease which has caused the base trunk to split open (I didn't care about treating it caused I hated the tree). Can I chunk this and use it? Do I need to be concerned about the disease or whether the fruit was edible?

I would chunk it up, dry it out, and use it.

When cured, invite 10 of your best friends over.

Smoke with the diseased wood.

Let everyone tell you how good it was.

3 days later, call them and see if they got the ****s.

If not, the rest of the supply is okay.

Neil, talked with my Dad about your question, greenest thumb I know and had one of these trees for several years, says he burned his in the fire place and doesn't remeber it smelling bad. Can't hurt to burn a bit of it and have a whiff. Might be some decent cookin' wood.

Cut it down this morning, found out it wasn't disease that killed the tree. The main trunk was completely infested with ants and some other bug. Gonna throw the whole thing out since it showed signs of infestation over the whole thing.

What a shame.

bon fire mod! Unless you happen to live in one of those god forsaken places that does not allow burning.
