I have been buying ribs at the local small town grocery store. Even though they constantly ran .50 a pound more than Sam's or walmart, they were better cuts with more meat on them than any others I could find. 2 weeks ago when they went from 4.49 to 4.99 a pound I kind of choked but grabbed a few slabs to throw on the smoker.

Today I was in there and they jumped to 5.69 a pound.

What the fark?

I looked next to them and there were spares for $1.99. Guess I am gonna try some spares. What do these usually go for? I am not used to buying them.

They got an end cap (RE: weekend fridge alotment) of baby backs all marked 4.09

That is our high price, they are marked 3.69 regular in 3 slab cryovacs.

Do you want them or not.

They are probably the same three pac cryovac that Sam's has. I have a few slabs left in the freezer and some spares now. May have to take you up on that later.

babybacks were 3.69 at costco and 3.19 at restaurant depot. For the party this weekend I wasnt go go for babyback for 60 people so I picked up 4 cases of spares with 4 in a case for 1.09#.

spares were a pain in the ass to cook though..Last time i made spares was at the bash II when ray wAS teachin me how to St. Louey them... even at the higher prices... for the family stuff im gonna stick with babybacks.

I did 100#s of baby backs for a q at church 2 weeks ago. I got the "case price" at costco for my 2 cases. It was 3.99/lb. To buy a single cryovac package is up to 4.59.

Hell, It costs me at best 2.60/lb for brisket. Oregon meat aint cheep.

Baby backs are $4.99 around here and spares are usually $1.99

I only do spares, I figure why waste the money on Bbacks, my spares taste as good and tender as any Bback I have ever eaten.

If I want more meat per rib I can get really big spares (from tough old hogs) by the case( aprox.40lbs) for $1.28 /lb They take longer to cook but come out just as tender and juicy as any other and they are already cut st. louis style.
