Hi Guys,

Short version of long story.
Visited my Dad in NE OK. Talked "Q'ing", naturally.
He gave me a 5 gal bucket full of Apple, plus 2 or 3 extra peices, that he had been "saving". They were in a metal store room.
No bugs, rot, or damage!!! Looked "new".
They are 3 to 5 inches in dia, about 8 to 10 inches long, and perfect!!
How long were they stored?
He wasn't sure, but guessed 15 or 20 years!!!!!!
I have never used Apple. So my question is--will this wood have any flavor left?? I don't know what to expect.

Thanks,
TIM

Get some real cheap meat, like JD sausage log, put in below heat shield and give it a try.

Don't know about 15 or 20 yrs but apple wood is one of my favorite woods to flavor meat and gives off an awesome smell. I would light some just to see the smell it produces, if good then prep your meat, if not, try with something you really don't care to eat in the first place and see if it turns out all right.

Good luck.

I think it should be alright as long as it hasn't started to rot. Rotten wood will produce some very bad smelling smoke, so try what Stuce recomended and check it out.

I have used some apple wood that was about 5 years old and stored in a plastic bucket, with very good results.
