I know that there may likely be less people this year than in previous, but Big T'z will be there. With any luck the weather will cooperate better than last year, but either way we are looking forward to it. Who else is showing up?

We had thought about it but it conflicted with the Pretty Good BBQ (PGBBQ) 2010, Dayton, OH (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82616).

This is the third year for this event, and I've been at both of the others...

Good Luck to all of the Brethren that go!!!!:clap2:

I signed up to judge but haven't heard anything yet.

If not might just come down and chew the fat with the Brethren there

a;ways has been a decent contest--have either cooked or judged there since '03(I think)--would be there this year but the other MIM beckons!

We hope everyone gives us another chance after last year where we had some problems. The Minnesota BBQ Society is again backing this contest and we will have pleanty of help this year and everyting will go smoothly. It will be smaller than last year as we are limiting it to 60 teams. Looking forward to it. If anyone has questions about cooking or judging e mail me at specturk@msn.com and I will help get answers for you.

Big Bubba's Roadhouse BBQ will be there. Like Turk said we are back in charge and hopefully if you haven't already sent your entry in please do. We at the Minnesota BBQ Society are running the contest this year and I have been promised the weather will be better then last year.
Hope to see everyone there

Mustang Sally will be there (our first time). From what I hear the weather was better on Mille Lacs in January than it was in Austin last May! It can't get any worse. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hey Joe we should go past 50 easy and I will guarantee better weather than last year. For it to be worst would mean a Blizzard!

Would love to at least judge this one. My calendar is completely jacked though. Might have to get the crowbar out to wedge this one in.

Talked to Randy this weekend. Looks like there should be around 50 teams. I think a good number for that contest. Last year's winner wont be there either, something about his daughter's graduation or some BS. lol.

Thanks for the update Ryan, This 4 weeks in between comps thing really sucks, can't get here fast enough for me...although I am getting the honey-do list whittled down. Won't get back to it till fall after next weekend :)

I have never been to a BBQ comp before so a friend and I are driving down to Austin this upcoming weekend to check it out. I am pretty excited. I was thinking of getting there around 10am. What should I expect? I have heard that some comps let the teams vend the extra food afterward but other comps dont. Does MN in May sell food anywhere at the contest?

If you talking about 10am Saturday, then you'll have a small window to talk with any teams if that is what you want to do. Saturday is the busy day for the competitors so they won't have a lot of time to answer any questions. Friday afternoon and evening would be the best time to meet teams and get a close up look at set ups. I don't know of any teams that would not welcome you into there site to take a look around and ask questions.
As for vending, they do have some venders you can buy from and we've never been asked to vend the extra BBQ afterwards. Anytime there are vendors at comp, the competors should not hand out samples or sell to the public.
Swing by and say hi when your in the area.

I emailed Randy about coming up on Thursday after work and he said it was okay, so it looks like I will be up there around 7-7:30.

Btw-anyone look at the weather?! Keep your fingers crossed, but from NOAA, it is supposed to be sunny and low 60's on Friday, and sunny and 66 on Saturday. Awesome!

I know a lot of the posts talk about how bad the weather was last year at MIM but I remember a worse year. That was when it was up in Cambridge, Mn. now that was bad weather. Buzz, you were there, you may not remember how cold it was though as we passed the bottle of Single barrel wild turkey.:becky:

No Vendors this year, just a good ol BBQ Contest. We may bring vendors back in the future but this year its all about getting the contest right with the cookers and judges.

So what time do turn it's actually start? If there are no vendors, do the teams usually sell or give out their BBQ?

Turn ins start at noon on Saturday. I don't know if teams will sell there bbq but I suppose if you asked nicely, the might. They may just give out samples too. We save all of ours and put back for catering.

I don't think teams can sell. MN health code.................:tsk: If I remember right there isn't much within walking distance to get a bite either. However, a buxom blonde on your arm might get you samples from a lot of cooks!:-D

Food close by will be a challenge....nothing I can think of worth walking to. If your in the mood for Pizza, order George's Pizza, I'm sure they would even deliver it right to your site.

Soo....

Will it be worth it to come and spectate?? I really don't want to face the wraith of driving all the way down there, getting "the look", and having to answer "So, now what??" from "She who must be obeyed"

Hope everyone doesn't pack up to quick. I'll have to save any hello's till after judging.
I'm going to make a list to try and spot as many Brethren cookers as I can.

Mustang Sally

MOS - it all depends on if 'the look' is worth it to you. Many times at my house it isn't worth it to me! Love to see you in austin - but here's an alternative...Ribapalooza...June 18/19 in right up I-94/Hwy 10 in Sauk Rapids...vendors, bands, bbq contest, the whole 9 yards. Plus for you living in Robbinsdale it's closer than Austin would be.

MOS95B
05-13-2010, 04:48 PM
As much as I would like to meet The Brethren that would be competing, getting "The Look" just ain't worth it. No offense folks, but I get into enough trouble at home - no travel required

Ribapalooza sounds good, though!! Hope some of you folks will be there!!

It was great day of BBQ. My daughter Nicole and I did our first judging. Have to rethink my visiting idea after the judging. Most folks looked pretty busy cleaning up
