My Bandera has had it. Somewhere around 3 years worth. Been very pleased. Considering another one, but thought I would open the floor to some alternatives in the same or slightly more expensive price range. Any suggestions are welcome but it's gonna be hard to replace the Bandera.

Welcome to this bunch of miscreants! :D

Replacing the Bandera is quite a decision. If you're pleased with the size, etc. I'd say stick with it - however, finding an "original" might be challenging.

There are still some new New Braunfels Banderas around but you gotta look. Charbroil is becoming more obvious. Some of the guys have bought the knock-offs, etc.

Phil and Greg (BBQChef33 and Parrothead) have Klose Backyard Chefs. We've got a wide variety of other cookers represented from ECBs, to WSM, to Smokey Mountain gas smokers, off-sets, etc. etc. etc.

I'm sure you'l be getting lots of "advice" about what to buy

Stop by Cattle Call and introduce yourself.

I don't mean to hijack Titan's thread, but what are the differences between the NB and CharBroil Banderas? I followed my instincts last weekend and dug up an NB. Good decision?

And welcome, Titan. I'm a noobie on these boards, too, and the more I look into what's written here the more I like it.

Best of luck on your new smoker!

Arlin, NB has been purchased by CB, so basically as far as current product goes probably no difference. The "original" NB bandera was a US made product. Perhaps made of slightly thicker material than the current imports, although this has come up in discussion before and I've never seen anyone post that they have checked their older model and verified this. I don't know for sure but I figure the NB nameplate is being phased out and eventually you'll just see CB.

I'm really happy with my Brinkmann Cimarron ("Binkie"), but it is a horizontal. That does mean some temp differentials accros the length of the cooking surface, but once you know the zones, you can do anything. Having said that, the space in the Bandera can't be beat - for the money. The Cimarron, however, will outlast the Bandera by decades.

Still wish I had 'Dera (along with "Binkie"), though.

Wait a few weeks.

Someone who runs this board is about to get a real bandera. The one the rest of us dream about. with 1/2" steel on the fire box, and 1/4" on the chamber, for under 1000.

If it is any good (Klose call) I will get one

New to the group-thanks for the link Bill. Bought a Brinkmann KC Deluxe last week at Menards. My other option was an Oklahoma Joe Wild West Tradition-horizontal offset-that was very nice, but twice the price. This is my first offset smoker-have been smoking on a modified ECB for the last two years- and the KC seems like it will fit the bill.

Welcome to the group bbqneo. The smoker you bought has some features that the Bandit does not. Fire that puppy up and let us know how you like it.

Note to a moderator. Please help resize bbqneo's avatar. Thanks.

Neo, I see you've been doing some reading!! Stop by cattle call and introduce yourself. Til then welcome.

Titan, welcom to you as well. If bandera capacity isn't essential for you there is guy who lives just 20 minutes from me that sells a very nice offset for very reasonable money, especially compared to similar products. I know he ships not sure of rates.

Mary's getting another cooker? What happened to the sewie pipe smoker? Doesn't protocol
say he has to finish the sewie pipe smoker first?

Hasn't got the cooker assembled yet, but will be back to tell us how the first smoke goes.

Congrats Neo!!
