Hello all! I am taking a trip to Orange, CA next month to take my little girl to Disneyland and to visit some of my wife's relatives. I figured that maybe I could try to find some good 'que in that bastion of BBQ that is Orange, CA. I was wondering if anyone in the bretheren had any reccommendations for getting some good que, or for visiting any BBQ stores where I could pick up some rubs & sauces. We might be heading to LA for a day, so any reccommendations for LA would be great too.

Thanks in advance!

Let us know when you firm up the date, and maybe we can arrange a mini bash.

First off I do not think there is any such thing as really great bbq in a So Cal restaurant. However last night I enjoyed a pretty good rack at Naples Ribs. This is a mini chain that also has two locations (Newport Ribs) in the OC http://www.ribcompany.com/. Their St Louis cut ribs seem a bit too tightly trimmed for me, I usually prefer the baby backs here.

Your best bet would probably be to go see Neil at Big Mista's you can check out his farmer's market days and locations here http://bigmista.com/vending/
You will get good food it is just not like a sit down meal in a restaurant, IMO.

Lastly Baby Blues BBQ gets some good press and they have two locations in So Cal, one in Venice and one in West Hollywood http://www.babybluesvenice.com/#/menu
I have eaten at the one in Venice several times and have found the food to be between OK and not-so-OK (mushy ribs). However you can't beat the atmosphere (casual and noisy) and the great looking wait help.

Thanks a bunch schellter! I will definitely try Naples, and if I can get out to El Segundo on Thursday, I will give Big Mista's a try. I have been wanting to try Mista's, as I have heard nothing but great things.

You may want to check out Johnny Reb's on Chapman Ave in Orange. They have some decent Q with lot's of other southern fare. Their peach cobbler is killer.

That's a bummer, I work across the street from there and was planning on checkin' it out. I'm only there in the wee hours of the morning and they're never open that early.

It may be a little out of the way (and not exactly in the greatest of neighborhoods), but you might want to check out Bludsos (http://bludsosbbqandcatering.com/) BBQ in Compton. They've got a fairly good following on Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bludsos-bbq-compton?rpp=40&sort_by=date_desc) and I'm finding myself there more and more.

There's also a very helpful blog (http://onlybbqribs.blogspot.com/) online (not sure who runs it) that reviews a lot of LA/OC bbq joints.
