i was in houston tuesday for a meeting, and i had some extra time in the afternoon - so i stopped by the klose and gator pit shops. boy, they make some fine products. klose had about 25 of his "owner recommended" (30" horizontal chamber with 20"x20" firebox) just sittin there waiting for a new home. sales guy said they sell those to walk-ins - lots of q addicts out there. gator pit didn't have as much inventory, but what they had there looked good. big difference that i saw is that klose uses a square firebox while gator uses a pipe (20" diameter) - although both said they could build either way. klose's square firebox seemed a bit easier to manage - especially with the pull-out ash pan. gator builds a ash removal scrapper underneath the firegrate - it srapes out the ashes as you pull out the firegrate - but you have to have something to catch the ashes as they fall out of the firebox and the firegrate must get very hot even with a stainless air handle.
looks like you couldn't go wrong with either one. gotta save up the cash.
phil, when at klose, i asked about your unit, and the dude didn't have a clue. did it already ship?
