...as chosen by Gore, the winner of the Breakfast Throwdown (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77334)!

Here are the simple and unchanging list of rules for the BBQ Brethren Throwdown...

1) The dish must be Grilled or Smoked during the cooking process, or feature Grilled or Smoked ingredients in a prominent manner.
2) Entries must be cooked during the current throwdown period ( 2/5 - 2/14 ).
3) All pics (any number) must be submitted by Midnight Central Time on the night of 2/14.
4) Only one picture from one dish will be used for voting, so please specify which one you want used, otherwise I will choose and my decision will be final.
5) If you have any problems with any of the entries, believing them not to be qualified for any reason, please use the ***VOTE*** thread and exercise your power of voting against those entries. Any complaints posted in any Throwdown thread, or directed to me via any other means will be ignored.

The voting will begin Monday 2/15 after I submit the "Vote" thread and will run through Friday 2/19. All votes will be public.

Don't forget, you can still enter the Super Bowl Party Food (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77196) Throwdown until Monday night 2/8 by midnight Central time.

Our next category will be decided by the winner of the Asian Throwdown (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77412)!

Best of luck and even better eats to all!

Now I'm sure Gore will weave a loaf of Bacon Bread  and kick my little sammy to the curb, but since I had this for breakfast this morning, I thought I'd get things rolling for this T/D. I humbly present the K.C.B.S. (Kansas City Breakfast Sandwich), made from brisket, bacon, one fried egg (trying to watch my cholesterol), a slice of smoked provolone and some roasted red pepper on two slices of rye bread:

Please use the last pic for my entry, thanks!

I have a sandwich I want to try out here too. However, I keep thinking back to that pulled pork sammich that River City Smokehouse made in Week 2 last year....it was the winning Calendar Photo Cover Shot! So I have like no chance in hell, but I'm still gonna do it. Besides, I have to start entering things again, Gore said so. Maybe I'll stal your one or two votes away though and you can get that zero.

landarc
02-05-2010, 01:26 PM
True, it is always possible that I could get a zero no matter what. Especially if River City enters another sandwich. Heck, he could enter that one again and I would vote for it.

just to be clear and to prevent the vote thread from having to be started over causing possible corruption to the process, is that bony sandwich a real entry or just an example from the past? also, i wouldn't recommend editing someone else's photo however good your intentions are.

these throwdowns aren't just for fun anymore. they are a serious competition for a place on some future brethren publication and posts that threaten the process in any way should be avoided.

The bread roll here is what's known as a dustbin lid in northern parts of England. It' about 12" in diameter so this is one big farking sandwich (1 1/2lbs of pork).

It's pulled pork on a bed of green lettuce with homemade BBQ sauce and homemade slaw. It fed four of us.

The Throwdowns are still fun, at least as far as I am concerned. Phil, if you put somewhere in your original post that it is an older photo and posted as a joke, then I see no foul, and no need to remove it.

I am probably going to add a couple rules to the Throwdowns along the lines of the following. This should hopefully address these areas, which have become a problem of sorts...

Editing others photos AFTER they post them should be discouraged for the reasons Rick gave. When people see an entry posted, and then after that entry is posted someone alters it and reposts a better version of that picture, some people think that is unfair unless they do that to EVERY photo. So don't do it. If you want to edit someones photo, or have someone else edit your photo, then do that before you enter the dang photo. Don't go posting 2 or 3 different versions of the photo, that makes it confusing.

Also, we have seen some good joke photos posted before and that helps to keep this fun. Please try and point out that it is a joke photo though. If you do not, i have no choice but to assume it is a valid entry. I made the mistake once of assuming someone posted a joke picture and left it off of voting, only for that person to feel slighted. So either explicitly state that it is a joke photo, or don't post it.

Now, back to the fun!

Here's my entry to the Sammich throwdown:

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae78/SmokinAussie/Pulled%20Pork/PP2.jpg?t=1265581333

I was amazed at how the whole cut of pork just fell to bits.... I looked at a lot of threads to learn how to do this. Believe me people, I'd never heard of doing pork like this until becoming a Brethren.

Anyway, here is the pulled pork, on a BBQ toasted Turkish Bread, with gravy made totally from the meat juices. It is accompanied with Guerry's Slaw recipe, and some rabbit food to keep the wife happy, and some kosher pickles.

Tasted super!

Cheers!

The definitions as found in the information landfill... (AKA Wikipedia)

A sandwich is a food item consisting of two or more slices of bread with one or more fillings between them,[1] or one slice of bread with a topping or toppings, commonly called an open sandwich.

A hamburger (or burger for short) is a sandwich consisting of a cooked patty of ground meat, (usually beef, but occasionally pork, turkey, or a combination of meats) placed between two wheat buns.

Before this gets out of hand.... Thanks George... that's good enough for me. As a result, I now understand that a burger is a sub category of "Sammiches" in general.

Reason I asked is simply due to regional differences between here and there, so I can properly understand exactly what you mean... not to cause a sh!tfight...:mrgreen::mrgreen:

All's fine! No worries about the details of the sandwich. I was being a smart ass myself! Details like that are left up to the voters. If someone enters something that is in the gray area, it's up to the voters to decide if they will nto vote for it because it doesn't fit the category. So no sweat, if you think it's a sandwich, post it.

I Australia a hamburger is not a sandwich? Of course, you guys have those funny cattle that hop around on two legs, so go figure.

Heheh, yes we do, and they are delicious as well.... But to be perfectly serious, in our region, we'd consider a sammich being something other than a burger. A burger being a bun and a beef pattie. If I order a burger and get a sammich... I'd say to the establishment...."Where's my F'ing Burger.... what do you call this thing, you Muppet????"

So, when I posted my entry, I was thinking down the line of "Oh, I hope these guys don't think I've posted a Burger, because its a Turkish "BUN" not a slice of bread...etc, you get the picture... :!: SO when everyone else posts burgers, I'm going.... err is a burger a sammich... what's going on...:confused:

Now the thing Y'ALL need to unnerstand is I'M AN AUSSIE.... And Pharkin' proud of it.:twisted:

What you probably don't realise is that there are significant, and I mean REALLY significant differences culturally, and verbally. Because as Aussies, we get all your TV, listen to all your music, love ALL your food and watch ALL your movies, we know much more about you, and you know Jack Sh!t about us. In general, we'd like to keep it that way too!

MEANING???? Most of the time, we know what you're talking about, but sometimes we don't, so we have to clarify. Something as simple as "gas" to you is "petrol" to us... it's a common one you all know, but there are a lot of other things that are not so simple... and these will probably surface at totally random points in the future. And I specifically write with my American fellows in mind, otherwise you'd wonder what I was sayin' :!:

There.... I'm done

Chip's off the shoulder... excellent therapy that was. Sorry about the length...

I guess I can do that while I spend the next 48 hours shoveling snow.

After reading that statement I do not feel near as bad about scoring second place in the breakfast throwdown. I have to drive 100 miles to see snow, but why would I?

The shoveling is not so bad. The loss of electricity and phone for 4 days IS bad (the temperature in the house has just broken 60* we're celebrating!). The worst part though is not being able to post a throwdown entry in time and missing the chance of getting a legitimate 0.

http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1175102&postcount=54

Perhaps even worse is expecting another 10-20" within the 24 hours after the electricity is restored and being told to expect more outages.

it's not a matter of whether or not he appreciated it or not. i did it to funk's photo once and messed up the vote thread and it had to start over and gore got restarted out of some votes. i'm trying to prevent that from happening again.

Hi Rick, just to let you know, calling that revote was definitely the right thing to do. For me, these throwdowns are about the fun. In this particular case, my entry was whimsical and I was completely shocked to receive any votes at all. With all the good entries for the Hot and Fast throwdown, I was relieved not to win and to be able to run a victory lap for Buster Dog:

Cheers!

VERY nice Guerry! There were a couple questions about submission, I believe in the previous throwdown. To me, there are two good options. One is to give all the details here (my preference). The other is to do so in another thread. This is an excellent example of the latter! Note that the other thread is linked in this entry, so you can find out all about it in a click! I encourage everyone to link their threads like this if you create an additional thread. Note you can edit your posts and add a link if you'd like! Wow Phoeb, those sandwiches are the two best I've seen you make!
I really like that one on the left. Next time though, you should hollow out the bread!

Thanks G.!
Next time I'll hollow it out for sure!:-D
Don't tell anybody else but the sandwich you like has broccoli in it.:biggrin:
Would you still hit it?:-D
