My cooker is the brinkmann version of the bandera, to clear the door my charcoal box is limited to 9 inches in ht. how much of that area should go to capacity and how much to air space under the coal grate? I was thinking 2" under + 1/2" grating + 6 1/2 ht for fuel. Does this sound about right or am I way off. Let me know what you think. scott

2" underneath should be fine. You can get away with 3-4" but it sounds like you have restrictions

My basket is 6inches tall and sets on any set of grate tabs in the fire box, so you can move the box up or down depending on how much ash room you need for what ever you are cooking. Look at page 2 in Photos under Modifications, then Bi Al's Charcoal Basket. More Pictures are also in the forum index under For Sale or Trade section.

My B'man "Bandera" (Smoke King Deluxe) doesn't have the hangers inside the fire box, so I have to design the ash space into the box. This space is my question. It can be only 9" overall in ht due to the door opening ht. hope this gives a bit more detail, thanks again.
