1 would this mod be best done on an unfired (new) rig? 2 is the appropriate goop automotive stuff in a toothpaste tube or home improvement stuff in a caulking gun tube? 3 how long has anyone had this in place and how does it hold up over time? newbie says thanks, scott

The gasket mod wasn't too difficult, but I can't stress enough to get the door where the sealant will go extremely clean. The how-to document is in the files section. Let me know if there are any questions.

Mike - Could you forward any ideas to me.

I'm about to take an adventure in metal working on my BD  . I'm planning on installing a heat baffle after I do the gasket thing. I lose a tremendous amount of heat and smoke around the doors and the hinges of my BD and I figure I"ve got nothing to lose.

Any ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated...

Smokey, I'm kinda answering for Mike here:

Gasket Mod

This is the gasket mod I tried. I use 3/8" fireplace gasket rope and it was too thick. I would suggest using the 1/4" rope and don't put it on the hinge side. This is in case you decide the silicone mod isn't right for you.

Guys,
I can't stress enough to get the door clean before applying the sealant. The mod is still working for the guy I sold my Bandera to. I did use a wire wheel in a drill like Phis mentions, but I also followed up with the other means to ensure a clean door. I think that I answered all of the privates messages that I have received, but if I misssed someone, or if there are any more questions, let me know.
