I maybe should not comment, because it has been a long time since I was there:
But if your taste in BBQ runs along the lines of Chili's, Tony Roma's, etc, then you should be happy there. If you are expecting authentic slow-cooked meat, not so much.
Their sauce is a fairly good version of mid-american sweet sauce, least what I had then was.

Anyone else with more current experiance, please feel free to correct me.:icon_blush:

I have never eaten there but my brother sends me a couple bottles of sauce around the holidays every year.

The wife and I really like the BBQ sauce.

Yes. It's not dirt cheap, but they make good food. Is it "authentic" or "the best BBQ?" That's open for discussion. All I know it that at the very least you'll get quality meat. The last time I was there (this fall), I had one of the cleanest slabs of ribs I've ever held in my hands. Literally the only thing left on my plate were dry bones.

My wife really likes it there so every time we are Cincinnati we eat there at least once. I usually get the ribs and they are pretty good despite being steamed.

We stop and get Graeter's ice cream afterward which makes the meal.

Never been to the restaurant, but I will use their sauce when I can't find or run out of my regular stuff.

Not sure about the 2 locations in cinncy, but I know the one here in Columbus doesn't do there ribs in house. They come shipped already prepared and they just warm them up. I was pretty disappointed when I heard about it. But the menu looks descent. can't go wrong with a ribs and duck combo platter!

I put it in the same category as Rendezvous in Memphis. Lots of hype, but lacking for good Q. This is a Q forum so we have pretty high mark for restaurants.

Just me, but nothing there was any good. We took a group from work (company was paying) and none of the 8 people liked it.

You results may vary, but my vote is no.

Go for Chili in that town.

To clarify my first post.
If you do not expect or demand Brethren Quality BBQ from a resturant you might be happy with the Montgomery Inn. I would go there if someone suggested it, and enjoy the food. I would not go expecting Adam Perry Lang, Dr. BBC, Poobah, River City smokehouse or many other Brethren to be at the pit.
It is a nice experiance, the way I remember.

I agree with Qman... It's not the type of BBQ that we make at home, but for restaurant BBQ it's not bad. It's worth a visit because you will get good food.

if you doubt the bbq, order a hamburger, steak, or fish.

I liked the ribs at the Rendezvous. I thought it was a nice change from normal slow smoked ribs.

As an Institution, the Rendezvous can not be beat. As for decent BBQ, Memphis has so many places serving really GOOD Q that I never go to the R.

If I lived there like you I am sure I would probably have another favorite. But my wife and I were only there a day and a half so we had the Rendezvous and went to Natural Born Grillers and both were good.

As far as true bbq goes, the ribs there are alot like Tony Roma's...Try going to the Montgomery Inn Boathouse on the Ohio River...Their menu is larger, and if you're a sports fan, they have gobs of sports stuff like signed pics, jerseys and balls.

We're going to be staying down there 2 nights. One night just off of 71 and 275 and the next night at the waterpark at kings island. It looks like the original montgomery inn is about 5 min from there and the one on the river is 17 min away. I would rather go to the one on the river, but this time of year anything on the river is just going to be cold and depressing. We'll probably go there the first night. The other ones we are going to is Jim Dandy's and maybe City BBQ. Then to Pappadoux on the way home.

What about Walt's bbq?

we went to both Walt's and Jim Dandy's
Walt's was good, but was lacking something. Not sure what it was. Jim Dandy's tasted better. Seemed more like a lunch place than big bbq dinner though. but that was okay cause we were there for lunch.
