As I recall, Ft. worth was the cattle hub of Texas. That means cattle eating and ****ting out mesquite beans all over your area for a very long time. I thought live oak was abundant as well. I suggest you find out where new subdivisions are going and scope them out for some free wood. OTOH: if the wood is already cut into fireplace logs, that's worth something.

That's cut and split. With regards to your free wood idea when is the last time you where in Texas ? Hell you can't even wipe your a$$ for free around here. Thanks for the idea but I have tried all avenues. I think :?:
Check if its a full cord or a face cord for $95.

Full Cord 4'X4'X8' Stacked
Face 4' Tall X 8' Depth So it's like a split logs stacked 4 foot high by 8 foot long. aka One Row where a full cord has depth. Make sense ? If I'm wrong I'm sure Tortilla soup will correct me.

so are the full cord logs not split? Or is a full cord just wider than a face?
For some reason it seems to me that a face is about half a full cord as splits are usually about 16-20" long - at least the ones I get anyway cuz they fit in the firebox.

I've never bought a cord that didn't constitute two stacks. Since it is a measurement I guess it could happen, but I've never seen it. Selling a face cord is just a way to avoid saying '1/2 cord', sort of like 99 cents sounds like less than a dollar.
There are many opinions on this matter a face cord is 4 x 8 by the length of the wood. Therefore if the wood is 4 x 8 x 12 inches it is a quarter of a cord. If the wood is 16 inches it would be a third of a cord. If the wood is 24 inches it would be half a cord. This wood is normally split already. If it isn't it will have to be split and allowed to dry or season before use. Wood that hasn't been split will not dry or season all the way. I hope this will be of some help to you.

18 inch pieces make it a face, or a third of a cord. 12 inch pieces make it a rick, or a fourth of a cord.
