Okay here are the pics. My buddy Mike bought this Charbroil Silver this past summer and wanted to affix a vertical to it. Steel boxes in 16x16x36 were running about $149, and would have required additional work (shelves, dampers, etc). Sooo - he bought a Great Outdoors charcoal/water smoker for $89 and affixed it. Now that's a farking Mod. Just needs a baffle.

Cool!!! a BYC(BBYC)Backwards Backyard Chef. ****, forgot to call ya about the baffle design. I meant to go take pics to send you and then had a brainfart. You still want them? BYC has a removable baffle bertween the 2 chambers.

That is awesome! Those Great Outdoors smokers must be pretty light to be able to brace it to the SS frame. Loaded up is there any instablity in it leaning over like a teeter-totter to the right?

So cool...

I would be a little concerned about it tipping over when loaded up. You might want to check on the balance.

I don't think it will tip when loaded but we'll double check it. He knows what he's doing and can easily put another set of legs/wheels for aditional support if needed. I'll also see if I can get Mike to join the Bretheren. I got him hooked on Q'ing and it's great to be able to drive 2 miles up the road to his place, sit around, BS, drink buds and Q.

okay. i'm kinda new to the concept of mods and the ramifications of their use. explain something to me and my limited intellect and, please, pardon my extraordinary ability to miss the simple. looking at the pix, i conclude the following:

the cc has openings at each end
the firebox is on one end
the vertical is on the other (duhhh)

would you use the firebox to heat the q in the vertical too? or
would there be a heat source in the vertical?

maybe its cause i'm working on my 19th hour of waking...i couldn't figure it out. it definitely would increase cooking area and make it easy to load up (butts, ribs turkeys, chickens, fish.......)

This may be considered more of an addition than a mod. But we like to call em mods anyway.

Looks like you got it right. A lot combination smokers use this type design. The only issue here might be the heat loss in the horizontal part which could reduce the max temp in the vertical because of the small fire box.

same type and size of charcoal water smoker (brinkmann brand) is avail at my local wally world for 59.00 didnt have tpe measure in my pocket but i think it is same size as my brinkmann "bandera" and same interior accessories, rib rack, water pan shelf, and shelves. Hoping all is same size as 60 bucks would be decent price just for the accessories to current rig already considered stacking on current set up for "second floor mod". Ol Lady says, "you just gotta f**k with everything dont ya". cant help it, its my nature.
