Received 1 QT jar of Dreamland Sauce for Christmas. Have not Q'd but am
dying to taste it - but then I'll have to refrigerate it.
Anybody know how long Dreamland Sauce should last in a fridge?

In my fridge, a jar lasts about 3 days, depends on how much ribs I cook.
But shelf life, a few weeks is no problem. It usually disappears before it has a chance to go bad. Keep in mind, besides a mop, its a great dipping sauce for anything, specially chicken boobs. My daughter keeps trying to drink it from a cup.

Refrigeration after opening is a good idea. My experience which spans 30 years is that Dreamland sauce is very durable in the frige..up to 6 months would be no problem although I can't say that an opened container has ever survived that long. I wish all of you could experience the origional Dreamland ribs in Tuscaloosa(but not on a game day). the founder has past away but his family carries on. The entire menu is: slab or platter? with white loaf bread and what ya wanna ta drink? Only in the past few years have they offered potato chips and a rib sandwich. Sports writers and broadcasters thruout the SEC rank Dreamland among the 10 top spots to eat in the South. There truly(sin't nothing like em'. Enjoy your sauce:)

PS Everyone, MikeG is responsible for bringing Dreamland (and Southern Flavor) to this group.
He has been living vicariously through me, but now has signed on. Good to see you again Mike, and you got to start a thread sometime on doing a whole butchered hog in the ground for 24 hours. Maybe closer to the Footh.

The 4th of July plus or minus 3 days...we Southern guys tend to round off holidays depending on when the food is ready
A friend (he's from NY but has lived "down south" for a few years) told me a story about his first visit to Dreamland. He was with two locals and they ordered "ribs" so he ordered "ribs". Well the ribs arrive with ribs and white bread -- no slaw, no beans, no potato salad (you get the picture) -- Paul tried to get the "waiter's" atttention to get some slaw and was totally blown off!! :D
When you order ribs at Dreamland that's what you get! The bread to for wiping the sauce and grease off your fingers and face :D

In Georgia too. Although Carl in Tuscaloosa says the quality has gone down now that they're expanding, he still like the sauce:

This new place by me has a sign that simply says "BBQ" and I picked up a menu. Thomas's Authentic Alabama Barbecue.
We'll see. Wanted to try a few slabs with Greg, but we were stuffed.

Well Brethren, I could hold out no longer. I had to taste the Dreamland sauce.
I must say it tastes awesome - both on a hot dog, a chicken strip, and running down
the back of my hand. mmMMMMMmmmm.
I'm beginning to understand why it doesn't last long in the fridge - it's the Mr. Owl and
the number of licks to tootsie pop center effect.

I dole it out by the tablespoon full.
First jar we had, daughter tried to pour it out of the jar, thought it was thick, SPLASH, have a quart on her plate.
Thats when Daddy started putting the Dreamland on "his" sauce shelf in the fridge. Use, at risk of penalty of death.

My daughter drings it out of a coffee mug. One thing I noticed. Has anyone else used it for a mop while cooking? it seems to disappear more than other sauces. I sloshed it on ribs before foiling and and when opened, the sauce was GONE! .. Flavor was there, just no sauce, almost looked naked.

I put it in a dipping bowl, nuke it for about 30-45 seconds and use it to dip refrigerated pulled pork in. Also good for a potato salad topping and not bad to dip nachos in either.

Living in Georgia, I've had the pleasure of eating at the original Dreamland in Tuscaloosa. I got a big kick out of the menu choices: whole slab or half. Good stuff too, but my ribs are better :D
How close is the sauce recipe in the "files" section to the original?

The one in the files section is by no way even close to the original. I followed that receipe and flushed the finished product 3 days later. Not recommended. I think i put on the title NOT COPYCAT.
