Got up yesterday about 5am--worked half day then daughter and I drove to Chitown(about 5hrs--each way-- damn traffic) to help others give thanksgiving to some less fortunate.
For the main course(served by others) we cooked about 38 20lbplus turkeys(8x30 klose with vertical) starting about 9:30 last nite. Of course just them fowl wouldn't be enuf for the bunch of us to do, so a couple of wsm's were pressed into service loaded with ribs, chicken, sausage etc--most vittles were served to the street folk(kinda tough seeing families on the street in the middle of the nite in Nov) and some of Chicago's finest too!

Of course ya gotta have breakfast too so went to local Dunkin donuts, got a few dozen along with a couple boxes of Joe to go along with some killer breakfast burrito's--never seen folks stuff food in there pockets so fast b4<sf>

Been about 36hrs since saw my pillow but well worth every minute--well traffic did suck from about O'Hare inbound last nite--but the weather couldn't have better for an all nite(and morning) cook in the end of Nov

see ya

Bless you Buzz! Brethren in arms!

You know, it always kinda seemed funny to me, giving boxed or canned food. I geuss it allows people to donate without having to get close and personal That is sort of the anti-BBQ. It just doesn't sound right, giving boxes full of uncooked pasta locked up with little packages of powdered cheese. Along side great big boxes of powdered milk, condensed chicken soup, and anything else that people find in thair cupboards that they won't eat. Buzz, you took that and added your skills to it, and served up a big heaping helping of love. Bless you and your daughter for being such good people on thanksgiving.

Not that food donations are a bad thing either. Lots of people have the ability to cook their own food, just can't afford the food. I will probably make a donation to my local food pantry before Christmas, but what you did was extra special.
