"Beer, Wine and Spirits"

...as chosen by BobBrisket, the winner of the Soups, Stews & Chili Throwdown (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71910)!

This shouldn't be too hard to figure out folks. Your dish should contain the featured ingredient. If however you choose to be an ignoramus and cook beer on the grill, please be careful of any exploding cans or bottles, and for goodness sakes use gloves when pulling the beer off the grill. For those who have problems how to figure out how to keep the beer from falling through the grates, just give up now.

Here are the simple and unchanging list of rules for the BBQ Brethren Throwdown...

1) The dish must be Grilled or Smoked during the cooking process, or feature Grilled or Smoked ingredients in a prominent manner.
2) Entries must be cooked during the current throwdown period ( 11/6 - 11/15 ).
3) All pics (any number) must be submitted by Midnight Central Time on the night of 11/15.
4) Only one picture from one dish will be used for voting, so please specify which one you want used, otherwise I will choose and my decision will be final.
5) If you have any problems with any of the entries, believing them not to be qualified for any reason, please use the ***VOTE*** thread and exercise your power of voting against those entries. Any complaints posted in any Throwdown thread, or directed to me via any other means will be ignored.

The voting will begin Monday 11/16 after I submit the "Vote" thread and will run through Friday 11/20. All votes will be public.

Don't forget the Cakes & Pies Throwdown (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71745) is still accepting entries until midnight Sunday night ( 11/8 )!

Our next category will be decided by the winner of the Wild Game Throwdown (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71918).

Best of luck and even better eats to all!

BobBrisket

Think marinades, glazes, sauces, desserts, appetizers, etc. This ingredient will hopefully open the Throwdown to all sorts of food entries. And "DE-Glazing" of the cook is also required!!

There's always the standby beer mop. I always preferred a spritz. Drink copious amounts of beer until meat needs a spritz. Shake up a can of beer, open cooker, open can, close cooker.

The rules are at the begining of the thread. Very simple. Your dish must somehow be prepared in a smoker or grill or contain an element that was grilled or smoked and then preferably prepped outdoors. Stay out of the kitchen, stove, and oven as much as possible. Post your pics and a little play by play on this thread and specify which pic you wnat entered into the throwdown. Beer, wine or booze must be an ingredient somehow in your dish, not just the fluid to wash it down.
Think...........rum cake baked in an Egg or a kettle, etc. Or a tequila marinaded something grilled over coals or even on a gasser if that's all that it at the disposal. But, above all, remember, it's for fun!

Last month my Mom and a friend went to southern Minnesota on a wine and apple orchard tour and she brought me back this garlic infused white wine from Scenic Valley Winery in Lanesboro, MN. Marinated the shrimp and scallops in the wine and extra virgin olive oil, wrapped the scallops in bacon, and scewered the shrimp and scallops and put them on the grill. Laid them in a bed of rice pilaf, spinach, with home made rolls on the side.

What follows is the excerpt of a recent scientific presentation given by my
Master at a BBQ convention. I (Gore) have faithfully reproduced the
proceedings for your interest:

Master: Ladies, Gentlemen, Gooood Eevening! You are about to witness
history in the making. I am about to present to you the greatest BBQ
invention, since that of …wood. Some people may think I am mad, and
they may be right, but aren’t all great geniuses mad?.........

[please, forgive me, I had to attend to preparations at this point and am
unable to reproduce my Master’s speech in its entirety. I continue at the
end of the introduction]…

Potato skins and chicken wings will soon be a thing of the past! Fried
zucchini? I laugh at fried zucchini, ha! I will now present to you,…my
creation. My assistant and I will demonstrate this for your benefit.
[Aside]Gore, is the sausage ready?

I (Gore): Ready, Master.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/stein/IMG_4068.jpg

Master: Gore, is the bacon weave ready?

I (Gore): Ready, Master.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/stein/IMG_4070.jpg

[The specimen is suitably cooked and we are all familiar with the procedure]

Master: Gore, has the specimen been suitably prepared?

I (Gore): It has, my Master.

Master: Gore, fill the specimen with the vital fluid and let the audience
behold my creation,… Fattie-Stein!

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/stein/IMG_4072-1.jpg

At this point there was a great commotion and my Master was
overwhelmed by a mob carrying scythes and pitchforks. Luckily, I managed
to escape by hiding in a cooling Traeger, suffering only minor burns in the
process. I have recovered and would like to submit the last picture in my
Master’s memory. I am off to Transylvania tomorrow to discover his fate. I
have heard rumors of a confectioner selling ice cream in fattie cones in a
remote mountain village and must investigate.

Please note that one revolutionary feature of this entry is that the vital
fluid remains very much in tact. In this case, it is an Imperial Stout having
an alcohol content of approximately 10% that I (Gore) prepared for the
Master. I can assure you [hic] that this was not depleted during the
preparation of this entry.

I (Gore) am in an ox cart navigating mountain paths in search of my Master. Luckily the ox carts have wifi here, so I can clarify the Fattie-Stein. Although it may appear like cheese sauce inside, it is Imperial Stout. I brew many ales for Master and he has a wide assortment in his cellar. I take pictures of all my children and look at them when I am away from home. I show you my little Stout:

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/stein/IMG_4106.jpg

When Master created Fattie-Stein he realized he needed a strong, dark ale for his vital fluid to compliment the smoky flavor of the fattie. Imperial Stout can hold his own. There was a mention of cheese, that was a very good suggestion. Master once said to me that if there is a cheese throwdown, then he could prepare a Fattie-Fondue. Master incorporates inlaid weaving and can make any size fattie. See how wide Fattie-Stein is, and no seams! Here is Fattie-Stein as he is being rolled. This is a single sheet of bacon fabric of three pounds.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/stein/IMG_4071-1.jpg

Master demonstrated inlaid weaving to prove you don’t need a big pig, only lots of little pigs. I used inlaid bacon weave to make myself a new smock. Now I (Gore) do not have to bring lunch to the laboratory either, and our laundry bill is much smaller too! When we have a smock throwdown, I will model the latest fashions. We approach a village now and I must sign off.

A yummy looking entry could still take this ya know! That mug shaped fatty wrapped in bacon-weave and filled with imperial stout, though incredibly creative, may not be the tastiest looking item when paired up with the others in the voting thread. So I wouldn't be so sure we have a winner yet.

Then again, I could be wrong (again).

A yummy looking entry could still take this ya know! That mug shaped fatty wrapped in bacon-weave and filled with imperial stout, though incredibly creative, may not be the tastiest looking item when paired up with the others in the voting thread. So I wouldn't be so sure we have a winner yet.

Then again, I could be wrong (again).

whole heartedly agree with that statement. after all it is hard to beat a good looking dish. lol

Well I figure entering the Throw Down is like playing the lottery or entering a comp. You gotta pay to win.
But since I already paid to support the Brethren and this site I figured it this way. Get as many tickets as you can for that one low price. So here I go a again.
Chili Verde Ver. 2.0 featuring the return of the Round-Up Biscuit.
