I stopped by an old country sawmill today and asked about the scrap lumber. They were making ax handle blanks from hickory logs. Long story short, they sold me a pickup truck load of 2 in x 2 in x 12 in scrap hickory for $10.00.

What a find!!

I live in Northeast Alabama just below the Tennessee state line. The sawmill where I purchased the wood is in a small town called Woodville.

With a planer, bar clamps and glue, those could probably make some pretty nice butcher blocks too
