Has anyone tried burning wood pellets in their Bandera, if so how does it compare to charcoal/wood? Sutherland Lumber sale flyer in KC has 40 lbs bags of 100% oak hardwood pellets for $2.59 a bag and if you want a ton (50 bags) is only $124.50.

Pellet cookers us a different firebox design with a auger to load new pellets and push out the ash to an ash catcher....at least the only one I ever saw.

Also the wood pellets must say that they are for food ....the one you buy at local hardware stors or hd are not for cooking ..just for heating in pellet stoves.

I got a stack of pallets out behind my Costco.

Was going to go swipe a few after reading this thread.

Thanks for the idea.

Those aren't for fuel Phil, just for flavor. Put em in foil or a smoke box and put em on the grill right near the heat. I use those sometimes when I grill. I can get a half hour or so of smoke out of a couple handfuls in a little stainless steel box.
