ATHENS, Ala. -- Great entertainment awaits everyone attending the American Bass Anglers Barbeque Cook-off Tour at Bucky Howe Park on Sept. 19. The group Say It Ain't So from Memphis, Tenn., will perform a free concert to cap off the day's activities.

Say It Ain't So has been playing together since 2002 and has performed all over the globe -- from Europe to Key West, Fla. Several of the members toured with Nickelback until they formed their own band. Members include Jay Stone, lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Rickey Shelton, drums and vocals; Greg Alan, guitars; and Mike McSorely, base and vocals.

“I met Greg in 2002 in a music store in Memphis, Tenn.,” said Stone. “I was on my way to Nashville from California to really break into country music. I had stopped in at Strings & Things and he was there and I knew right away that I wanted him to be in a band with me. In country music, there’s no faking it. You have to be able to play, and play good. Then I had the good fortune of meeting Rickey in 2003 in a studio session when he was playing and touring with Nickelback. I think we have some of the very best musicians in country music today. We want to write our own music and make it to the top. One thing’s for sure -- we guarantee a good time when anyone comes to our concerts.”

The public is invited to enjoy the festivities of the day. Vendors of all types will be showing their products -- including food vendors. The American Bass Anglers' Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Divisional Championship weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the barbecue awards presentation at 4:30 p.m. The concert featuring Say It Ain't So will cap off the day.

All activities are free and open to the public.

Bucky Howe Park is located on the lake across from Outlaw Steakhouse, at the corner of Highway 431 and Wyeth Drive.
