I am going on bussiness trip to Austin TX for two weeks and want to hit up some real Texas Q joints. Do you guys know of any in or around that area?
Thanks,
John

Here's a good list and review section:

I buy the mustard habanero BBQ sauce on-line from the Salt Lick. Got to try that place if you get a chance!

Just drive around and keep your car windows open :D
Also, if you have the time take I35 south to Buda, New Braunfels, etc. there are some great places to eat and visit -- if you get to New Braunfels check out any of the sausage places.
I've been gone too long to recommend any one place (damn, it's been 6 years!!). I didn't ever eat 'q in Austin but ate plenty in the small towns around and south of there. Heck, go up I35 north to Waco and go to the Dr. Pepper museum :D

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking forward to going to Texas!
Don't forget you're only an hour from San Antonio -- go see the Alamo and the Riverwalk. If you have time take Loop 410 around to the Bandera Road exit and look for a restaurant called Los Palapos -- family owned and the food is great -- TexMex of course.
You can hit Rudy's for 'q or Bill Miller's (think he has some in Austin, too) for chain type BBQ -- the brisket ain't half bad and the sausage is usually good.
Heck, take I-35 south of San Antonio about 35 miles and get off on the Pleasanton exit -- look for McBee's on your right -- great little 'q joint -- he has a couple of other places, all in small towns, and they have the brick smokers out front - all the food is cooked on the premises.
Now I've got you planning a real Texas road trip -- heck, Austin to Pleasanton's only two hours -- in Texas terms that's around the block :D
Rudy's has been featured on FoodTV:

McBee's just has good 'q in a small town atmosphere:

Since you'll be in town for 2 weeks, I'll assume you'll have a car. In Austin, I think your best options are BBQ World Headquarters, at 6701 Burnett Rd and a new place John Mueller's just east of downtown on Manor Rd. John Mueller's place is a offshoot of the famed Louie Mueller's in Taylor, TX (45 min NE of Austin). Another option is to hit the chains, I think the best of these is Rudy's - a great lunch option.
If you want to venture out of Austin, you're in luck, in Lockhart, TX (1hr S on Hwy 183) you will find Kreuz Market and Smitty's Market. Of these two, I prefer Smitty's, their brisket is unbelievable. To the West a few hours, you'll find Coopers in Llano and to the east you'll find City Market in Luling.
The Salt Lick is a good place too, probably your best bet for a casual work/client outing as it's a byob event with all-you-can-eat dining (cash only last time I was there). But again, I prefer Smitty's as that shows why bbq sauce is unnecessary.

I had my first Mc Rib in Austin TX. Don’t rember the exact McDonalds. It was about 14 years ago. You shouldn’t have trouble finding a McDonalds their all over the place. Good Luck
