WTF?

"On Sunday, certified judges from the Kansas City Barbeque Society supervised a barbecue contest in which contestants had to barbecue items such as chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket and apples."

Taken from a story in the Poughkepskie Journal on the Hudson Valley Rib Fest. Some nice quote from DviaQ and Wine and Swine, though!

Quality reporting by Rasheed? How dare he leave out pork. Wait til Hugh Jordan sees this.

Hundreds of pieces of dirty barbecuing equipment could be seen on the southeastern edge of the Ulster County Fairgrounds on the last day of the three-day Hudson Valley RibFest................................sounds appetizing

Ugh. Apples. Can you core them or do they need to remain whole?

I judged KCBS on Sunday.
I remember seeing the Press, including one dude with a camcorder who had to be advised as to proper conduct by one of our reps....
It is one of the few contests that has bleachers for spectators to view the judges, (behind the yellow tape of course.)

The apples were last and since we all know they don't count, I have to admit it was a real treat to enjoy something nice and sweet after sampling the chicken, ribs, pork and brisket turn-ins.

As far as the reporter with the by-line above, hopefully his writing style and fact checking will improve over time. It certainly needs a lot of help.

I think you can core after fully cooked, but then it can't be returned to the cooker

Couldn't be an official KCBS entry; they only called through third place for apple winners.

Here was our last minute entry. We sort of forgot about this category LOL so we took some storebough biscuit dough put in into my corn bread pan and filled them with cream cheese and sauteed apples. Topped them with whip cream an dsome caramel made last second. The flower was from the fields.

Looks awesome to me, DivaQ! I didn't realize they had grilling Saturday plus an extra category on Sunday. The article just struck me funny.
