OK...I'm not smarter that a 5th grader so that's why I have a computer! But the numbers don't add up.

We competed at Kennesaw this weekend and came in 20th out of 42 teams. Not great but our appearance scores were all 8's and 9's....a first for us. (Pron later)

So I take our scores and throw them into Excel so I can do some "what if" type scenarios. But my number don't equal the printout.

I had 2 teams members look at it also and we can't get the brisket score to add up.

Would someone mind looking at our scoring details http://www.kellwrestling.com/Scoring_detail_sheet.tif
and the excel file I created with the formulas http://www.kellwrestling.com/KCBSScoring.xls and finally compare to the team rankings http://www.kellwrestling.com/Overall_team_scores.tif

You'll see my calc on brisket does not equal the official printout. Thanks in advance!!!!

PS - Does someone else have a nice KCBS scoring program better than mine???

What were the weighting factors you used for the three categories?

It's in the excel file. They are a secret

Okay it seems to me that you are throwing out a low score for taste from one judge, then tenderness from another, then taste from yet another (from whatever judge gave you the low score for each category).

As I understand it is scored by removing the lowest cumulative score for from all six judges, not the lowest score from each category. So you will have a score between 5 and 36 from each judge and the lowest is thrown out and the highest 5 are added together. If you do it this way it adds up.

Sometimes it will work the other way, hence the confusion; I believe.

So here is your 6 judge's scores:

34.2858, 33.143, 28, 32, 34.2858, 29.1428

Judge 3's score is thrown out and you are left with the rest adding up to:162.8574

I hope this helps!

Ryan has nailed it. You need to total the scores for each judge (using he appropriate factors for each category) and then throw out the lowest judge's total score. It should mach the score sheet then.

Some one had said one time that they through out the low judges score not the lowest score from different judges. Not sure if that is before or after they are weighted. I think it is before. So if your scores were 789, 985, 889, 998, 888 and 979. You would throw out All of judge #2 scores. Some one correct me if I am wrong this is the way I was told onee time when I ask a question like this. Sorry I do not remember who it was that told me that, so I cannot tell you how reliable it was. But I did believe them. try it with your spread sheet and see if the numbers match.

Sorry Ryan is faster at typing than me.

Ryan's on it - judge 3 (976) was the low judge. It's not the low per combined A,T,T (876)

You should have had a few extra points added for dealing with Black Hawk rotor wash around crunch time!

If the judges thought that the black "speckles" on the chicken was pepper...they would be wrong!

Add this forumla and you don't need to put in the "0's"

What this does is add up all of your scores then finds the Minimum score and subtracts if from the total.

=SUM(Y3,U3,Q3,M3,I3,E3)-MIN(E3,I3,M3,Q3,U3,Y3)

That is how it is set up in my model.
