I've heard of this guy, rumor has it, he has been checked into a "farm" for treatment. (his wife had it aranged after he was found on the deck crowing at the rising sun on too many occasions)

Haven't been around the forum much this year but we're really looking forward to catching up with you guys. Between the house, the job, the family and the other hobby (my Chevelle), I've only fired up the smokers a couple of times this year. You guys should have no trouble kicking our butts this time around.

I see Willy's going to be in attendance this year. God help us all. :-P

Hello Summer Fest Competition BBQ Teams!

The Committee for New Holland Summer Fest would like to invite you to participate in our Friday evening covered dish get together, to be held after the Cook's Meeting. The plan is for the event to be held from 9:00-11:00pm in the air-conditioned Judges Room, and will allow for you to visit with other teams and eat good food. Participation is not mandatory.

Based on your team name, we've split the group alphabetically, and are asking each group to bring a different item. If your team name falls between A-H, we're asking you to bring an entree. If you are between I-R, we're asking you to bring a side dish. And if you're in the S-Z category, we're asking you to bring a dessert. If you have any questions about where you fall into the list, please email me. Please also bring a serving utensil if your food item requires it. NHSF will provide paper products and drinks. Food should be delivered to the judges room between 8:30 and 9:00pm, which will allow us time to set up.

We would appreciate if you could let us know if you're bringing an item, that way we know how much food we will have.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call me at 567-215-5260.

Thanks,
Amber Grim

I'm a fan of The Hill Top Inn in Ephrata. It's about 15 minutes east on rte 322, just as you enter Ephrata. Good food, a few decent beers, and it's not expensive.

Thanks,
Amber Grim

Not being from Long Island, is there ever a good time to be leaving Long Island? Whenever I am up there for work, I always seem to get caught in traffic...no matter the time of day or day of the week.

Ugh didn't anyone tell you guys that talking about impending weather is like talking about politics and religion. It just never ends in your favor. BTW is traffic moving well too?

Thats because no one told you the right way to go. We let all those from out of town fill up the roads while we go the other way. lol

Rule of thumb. If its 8-11 am or 2:30 to 7 pm stay off any road labelled parkway or expressway. Service roads are fine for the most part and highways move slow but reasonable.

Thanks everyone for the good times, great booze, and excellent food!

Just waking up here at home from the after comp coma. Had a bit of an ordeal leaving the event, the hitch must have become pinched on the way out of that hairpin turn over the sidewalk leaving and then popped just on top of the ball when we hit the tracks cause about 8 miles down the road we came off and drug it from the chains... in slowing down, the trailer hit the truck and broke some plastic, bent the 3rd leg handle and possibly the leg, and nocked out the lights (blew fuses). We luckily had 2 cars stop with some older gents who helped us hook up and get off the road. I couldn't believe the arse holes driving by laughing at us and yelling arse hole comments. Called Onstar but they wouldn't help as its apparently not covered so we "had a flat" hoping the guy who came would have some tools. Not our luck. We limped down the road another 2 miles to a walmart which I must say had the rudest employees I have ever met. The kid checking the tools at the counter actually commented on how dirty I was and I tried to explain our situation through my exhaustion to which he replied "sucks to be you" and not in the sarcastic way. We adjusted our ball catch in, found all the blown fuses and got back on the road.

Im home, Im tired, and I don't even want to go survey the damage. Thanks everyone who stayed back and offered to come find us and help out.

Oh! Forgot to mention, when I got the stanley ratchet set out to the truck, I go to open the box to do my quick adjustments and the box is literally screwed (with a screw!!!) shut! WTF??? I refused to go buy a screw driver and nearly smashed the box trying to get the thing open. Makes it easier to not return to walmart every time I go there.

But... New Holland was awesome! I really never have had a bad time at a comp.

George, missed having you compete but hopefully they let you back in next year? I am dang tired but loved seeing everyone, though never found Chip. Fighting the weather was tough but was happy with everything despite some surprises in chicken and sausage (from a 2-peat to 20th?).

Congrats to PA Midnight Smokers for their 3-peat, 3rd Eye for RG, Steve for 3rd and my man the Gnome for an awesome 5th (Smoke In Da Gnome coming to a contest near you soon)! Got two calls so that was cool, especially when the competition is so fierce. Tiny bubbles!

We went to the DuPont estate today. Amazing place for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Actually we were 5th but congrats none the less to all. Jim and I celebrated our showing with a coupla cigars that someone donated to our rag tag operation. 'Preciate that Clint.

Sorry to hear about the chicken score, that kind of thing makes it hard to judge your own progress.

As far as Ed Hess and the PA Midnite Smokers..., I think they've won almost every contest I've entered! If he didn't seem like such a nice guy I think I could learn to hate him. :-D
